In Psalm 119:29-30, he wanted to put false ways far from him, for God to be gracious to him by teaching him to obey the Torah, and he chose the way of faith by setting it before him, so this has always been the one and only way of salvation by grace through faith.
In Matthew 4:15-23, Christ began his ministry with the Gospel message to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, which was a light to the Gentiles, and the Torah was how his audience knew what sin is (Romans 3:20), so repenting from our disobedience to it is a central part of the Gospel of the Kingdom/Grace, which Paul also taught based on the Torah (Acts 14:21-22, 20:24-25, 28:23). Christ also set a singles example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to the Torah and as his followers we are told to follow his example (1 Peter 2:21-22), that those who are in Christ are obligated to walk in the same way that he walked (1 John 2:6), and to be imitators of Paul as he is of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). So Jesus and Paul both spent their ministries teaching their followers to obey the Torah by word and by example and Christianity is about following what they taught, not about refusing to follow what they taught. The reason why Jesus established the New Covenant was not in order to nullify anything that he spent his ministry teaching or so that we could continue to have the same lawlessness that caused it to be needed in the first place, but rather it still involves following the Torah (Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 36:26-27).
The Jewish-Christians and most of the twelve did follow elements of the Torah and Jewish customs....ie polygamy and concubinage and worshiping in the Temple and sacrificing animals. That Christian sect died out before the end of 1st century.
The Gentile-Christians took the helm of the church and made the Lord's Day Sunday the weekly day of worship.
The meeting in Chapter 15 of Acts and the letter issued by James made it clear that the Gentile-Christians were not going to be following Mosaic Laws. And Paul made it clear that Gentile-Christians are not under the Law.
The apostles and elders, your brothers,
To the Gentile believers in Antioch, Syria and Cilicia:
Greetings.
24 We have heard that some went out from us without our authorization and disturbed you, troubling your minds by what they said. 25 So we all agreed to choose some men and send them to you with our dear friends Barnabas and Paul— 26 men who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
27 Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas to confirm by word of mouth what we are writing. 28 It seemed good to the Holy Spirit
and to us not to burden you with anything beyond the following requirements:
29 You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.
Farewell.
30 So the men were sent off and went down to Antioch, where they gathered the church together and delivered the letter. 31 The people read it and were glad for its encouraging message. 32 Judas and Silas, who themselves were prophets, said much to encourage and strengthen the believers. 33 After spending some time there, they were sent off by the believers with the blessing of peace to return to those who had sent them.
As we see here at the meeting between Jewish-Christians and Gentile-Christian there are only four items….common sense items that are to concern Gentile-Christians.
2nd Corinthians 3:7-8
But if the ministry of death, in letters engraved on stones, came with glory, so that the sons of Israel could not look intently at the face of Moses because of the glory of his face, fading as it was, how will the ministry of the Spirit fail to be even more with glory?
Galatians 3:12 “
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us.....”
Galatians 3:1-5 You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified. I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh? Have you experienced so much in vain—if it really was in vain? So again I ask, does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you by the works of the law, or by your believing what you heard?
Galatians 5:4
You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace.
1st Corinthians 9:20 “And to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the Law, as under the Law,
through not being myself under the Law, that I might win those who are under the Law;”
Romans 4:15 “for the Law brings about wrath, but where there is no law, neither is there violation.”
Romans 6:14 “For sin shall no longer be your master, because
you are not under the law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:15 “What then?
Are we to sin because we are not under the Law but under grace?”
Romans 8:2 “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
hath me free from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 7:6 “
But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.”
Romans 7:8 “But sin, taking opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind;
for apart from the Law sin is dead.”
2nd Corinthians 3:3 “being manifested that you are a letter of Christ, cared for by us,
written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone, but on tablets of human hearts.”
This follows Paul’s statement saying You foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you….
Galatians 4:21 “
Tell me, you who want to be under the law, do you not listen to the law?”
Galatians 3:10 “
For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.”
Galatians 3:24-25 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come,
we are no longer under a tutor.
Galatians 5:18 “But if you are led by the Spirit,
you are not under the law.”
Galatians 2:16 “Yet we know that
a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and
not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.”
Galatians 2:21 I do not nullify the grace of God,
for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.
Hebrews 8:13 “
In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.”
Romans 3:20 For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.
Not only are we not under the Old Testament Laws, the concept of Law is gone. The Mosaic Law was made up of 613 Laws, but still it was not enough to cover all the possible sins. If you broke one, you broke all of them and there was no forgiveness. Yeshua's teaching is matter of heart and mind, love God and love one another and do no wrong. In the New Covenant our sins are between us and Yeshua and if we confess our sins He if faithful to forgive us.
