She just says, "That would be awful! it would portray a bad image."
Thanks. I wonder what she meant?

:confused:

Anyway, if she for example were double pierced each side, it would logically not be excessive if you had one piercing each side. She must know what she means, though; although if she considered that you really strongly wanted to do it - not least for it to be a talking point in witness - would she be able to suppress her maybe somewhat illogical feelings (if that's what they are) and be glad that you're wanting to use it as a witness talking point (given the various Scriptures and applications where it's mentioned)?

@justbyfaith : Your good wife is of course most welcome to her subjective feelings about your possible ear piercing plans. It's clear in any case that men piercing their ears is very well established and very widely so. And I guess you might have an added, very strong reason for wanting to do it, also. (How strong, is something others can't answer, of course.)

One of my grand daughter has about 6 each side...(small graduating diamonds) she seems happy with them at the moment.
PS: "ByGrace":

It's certainly the case that some ppl prefer to get several done in their ears before even considering any, anywhere other than ears, and sometimes will remain happy with ears only being done.

And therefore, an earring in the left ear would be more according to the message that the person with the earring is a bondservant of Christ.

So...silver for the spiritual type for redemption?

Or Gold for the type for the nature of God?

Or a lovely big diamond as a type of our spiritual life , moving through from wood, to charcoal, and pressured into a final beautiful diamond, fit for the Kings crown? :)

Be blessed....H

What a valuable contribution! You have clearly meditated deeply on the symbolism and significance of the value of different ways of doing and filling the ear piercings. Thank-you! You've opened up the topic more profoundly to show clearly, for both genders, just how joyous ear piercing can be! :)

When she was a teenager she had had her ears pierced but had stopped wearing earrings before meeting me.
Yes, whether one goes on to wear earrings is another matter, although for teenagers it's almost 'obligatory' to have it done, it seems. These days it's very widespread for the young men to do it also.

It has always been common to try to follow the ways of a peer group in order to hopefully be accepted as a member of that group. It may be nice to be accepted, but sometimes the price is too high... especially for the actual return received.

I know what you mean; I guess it's also simply a matter of what one's age is; once one gets to a certain age, it's what is done.

@"ByGrace"

I think that if I did it I would choose silver for redemption; to signify that my bondservice to Christ is based on His redemption in my life. I might relate what I usually do about how we love Him because He first loved us and that our obedience to Him is based on our gratitude towards what He did for us.

'And if the servant shall plainly say,
"I love my master, my wife, and my children;
I will not go out free":
Then his master shall bring him unto the judges;
he shall also bring him to the door, or unto the door post;
and his master shall bore his ear through with an aul;
and he shall serve him for ever.'

(Exodus 21:5-6)

'And it shall be, if he say unto thee,
I will not go away from thee;
because he loveth thee and thine house,
because he is well with thee;
Then thou shalt take an aul,
and thrust it through his ear unto the door,
and he shall be thy servant for ever.
And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise.
'
(Deuteronomy 15:16-17)

Hello @farouk,

I received your 'call' to come to this thread, but I don't have any piercings anywhere on my body, I'm afraid.
Though, as @ByGrace intimated, it is the mark of a bondslave; as the verses above show. The verse from Proverbs below is rather lovely too:-

'A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.
As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold,
so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.'

(Proverbs 25:11-12)

Within the love of Christ our Saviour,
Chris

'My son, hear the instruction of thy father,
and forsake not the law of thy mother:
For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head,
and chains about thy neck.'

(Prov 1:8-9)

'Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom:
and with all thy getting get understanding.
Exalt her, and she shall promote thee:
she shall bring thee to honour,
when thou dost embrace her.
She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace:
a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee.'

(Pro 4:7-9)

'Likewise, ye wives,
.. be in subjection to your own husbands;
.... that, if any obey not the word,
...... they also may without the word be won
........ by the conversation
(manner of life) of the wives;
.......... while they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning
.. of plaiting the hair,
.... and of wearing of gold,
...... or of putting on of apparel;
........ But let it be the hidden man of the heart,
.......... in that which is not corruptible,
............ even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit,
.............. which is in the sight of God of great price.
For after this manner in the old time
.. the holy women also,
.... who trusted in God,
...... adorned themselves,
........ being in subjection unto their own husbands:
.......... Even as Sara obeyed Abraham,
............ calling him lord:
.............. whose daughters ye are,
................ as long as ye do well,
and are not afraid with any amazement.'

(1 Peter 3:1-6)

* Compare Ezekiel 16 & Hosea 2, - Israel as the unfaithful wife.
