Hi there!
So a simple thought: without Love, God is darkness. In other words, when people sin, they say "the darkness made me do it". What they mean is "I refused to let God be God to me, and did what I liked". The darkness then, protects God, since He cannot sin as God, but is absolved of His responsibility by the darkness, which keeps no record of who did what sin. Light in the darkness, is therefore crucial.
If there were no light in the darkness, we would never escape it, all our sins would condemn us. But Christ came as a light in the darkness, revealing the Love of God - by which darkness can be overcome. Do not marvel at this, how great the darkness is, even man is a little mysterious at the best of times. The point is that the darkness cannot give meaning to mystery, or indeed anything. Therefore if God creates in darkness, how great is that God and His Power? You see, the darkness still accentuates the Love of God, it cannot keep quiet about Him! We are not safe in darkness, but "ye, though I walk through the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me" (Psalm, from memory). In other words, there are different scales of darkness.
Different scales of darkness - the darkness of the shadow of death, the shadow of Christ's wings, the shadow of Peter (which healed many) - do not mean different scales of God's love, all Creation reflects God's love, no matter how in the dark. What we must be mindful of, is our ability to hear God, despite the darkness: that way we can identify with God, despite the power of darkness (and be saved). In other words, praying unites us with the Spirit of God, that we may abide in His Love, despite the darkness. As we are received into Heaven, the Darkness is expelled, God is no longer forced to resort to darkness, to dwell with us (because the light is always with us, in Heaven).
I think this is powerful, because it reminds us that, even with perfection, there is still temptation; even with distinction, there is still a test of strength. Who we serve and how are powerful definers of who we become and for what. There can be no reconciling with God, if we hold the darkness against Him. Likewise if we hold the darkness against others, with what can God love us? So we are to be pure, and with that free, whether there is darkness or not. This is the promise of Christ, that in Him we will always see the light, whether the darkness is at our feet or not.
I hope this has been of some encouragement.
God bless.
