How about if you do your best to look up Deut. 17:17 which records God commanding that a king "Neither shall he multiply wives to himself.".Exactly! The scriptures do say to treat slaves and for slaves to obey their masters....so the scripture that condemns slavery is not there....my point exactly.
The Mosaic Law regulates Polygamy and concubinage. 613 Mosaic Laws regulates morality...are we to assume that God does not condone morality? When God was talking to David, He took credit for David's wives as a sign of favor. A point that was part of Judaism that the number of wives and children a man had was a sign of God's favor.
Refuse any particular groom? Bet you will not find that in any Mosaic Law or as a practice explained by Christ or the Apostles. Parable?
Matthew 19
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?.....He did all that Christ asked....except one thing....
21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
You so funny!
I am trying to be very careful here as we help you find God's determination upon your questions. I do not want to discourage and impede your discoveries. Let's together thank God for His kindness to provide such clarity in His Scripture.
In fact, let's look at Matt. 19 where the inquiring Believer asked Jesus about attaining eternal life. The man was a Jew, asking the question about eternal life from a Jewish perspective, which held that a prosperous life here on Earth lived in obedience to Mosaic Law would be carried to eternal life. Jesus' initial response acknowledged that particular belief. Back then, Jews had absolutely no concept about Eternal life in Heaven being an undeserved gift from God through Christ.
Since that Jewish belief about the attainment of eternal life was, in their thinking, linked to a righteous temporal life through the Mosaic Law, Jesus' concluding premise also related to the idea of a successful temporal life. His specification to sell one's wealth and give it away was how the Jew could actually gain the rich temporal life which the Mosaic Law could not be followed to successfully achieve.
As a Jew, the man was not thinking about Heavenly eternal life, but could only conceive of a successful temporal life, and seemed to sense in his heart the Mosaic Law was not therein workable. He had doubts. Hence, Jesus introduced the notion of Discipleship by using the man's own misconception and ignorance of Heavenly life. Jesus was helping the man to possibly become a Disciple, before any actual conversion and rebirth could take place at that time before Jesus' Crucifiction and Resurrection. Remember, Apostle Peter did not actually become converted until after he had seen and accepted the Resurrected Jesus. See Luke 22:32 for Jesus' comment on that. If you are curious.
Best regards, keep working.
