i haven't seen it. what did you learn?
Not much, but it was a good overview of things I've heard in the past. One thing I did learn is that the Catholic Church moved "All Saints Day" from May 14th to Nov 1st. I knew that, but what I didn't know is that they named May 14th as All Saints Day to cover up a Roman Pagan Holiday which was in existance.

This is one thing I don't like about the Catholic Church. They tend to Christianize paganism. I would've rather they stomped it out by force than do that. Of course, the better solution is to tell the truth and let the Holy Spirit do what it does.

the pagan roots of christmas wouldn't be a reason to celebrate halloween but rather to not celebreate either.

i would've rather had them stomp it out too. oh well, atleast we know who's greater and who wins in the end.

In my house
but don't you know that the tradition of trick or treating is symbolic for human sacrifice to samhain or satan?

How can it be symbolic for human sacrifice when all they did was build a bonfire to symbolize the "hope of keeping warm" when Winter comes. Samhain is a word that means "summer's end." It does not mean Satan. It simply means that the summer and harvest has come to an end and the beginning of winter has started.

you didn't answer my question. who do these pagans make their sacrificies to? samhain is a demon. open your eyes.

I did answer your question. Samhain is not the name of a god or goddess. Samhain is a word that means "Summer's End." During Hallow's Eve, the Celts would build a bonfire. This bonfire symbolizes the hope to keep warm during the winter. November 1st is Samhain (the end of summer and the beginning of Winter).

Then how come Christians used a pagan holyday and adapted it to honor Jesus? Can't Christians do something similar with Halloween?

christians were not told to put an end to pagan celebrations by taking those holidays and celebrating them as their own

that is fools gold.

christianity should have no part in pagan celebrations at all...christians are not to be a part of the world. Do you really want to dance with the devil?

I was just pointing out the inconsistency and double standard. And I don't think a lot of Christians that celebrate Christmas has ever thought this through.....they simply blindly follow the tradition.

Halloween is just another day as next one. I just way for little kids to dress up and get candy. Any of the witch craft is done by witches and other. I don't see why that would affected us Christian.

that's not all they did. quit spreading lies. they would sacrifice animals and sometimes humans to their god samhain or to satan. where do you think they got their bones to make a bone fire to begin with? it was leftover from their blood sacrifices.
samhain is the name of the god of the dead and the reason for the festival. it doesn't matter what the name means, or rather what you say it means.

Read the history.

even your wikipedia link shows that halloween has evil pagan roots: invoked the help of the gods through animal and perhaps even human sacrifice.[sup][1] [/sup]

and not only do you where a satanic looking mask on your avatar, under statement of faith in your profile it says: not sure. how can we trust the statements of someone who isn't even sure what their faith is?

and promoting pentegrams in another thread? really?

I'll defer to the Resurgence, Justin Holcomb writes some pretty decent stuff:

http://theresurgence.com/2011/10/31/what-christians-should-know-about-halloween

I've heard Mark Driscoll use the phrase: Receive, Reject, Redeem. That's the path to take here. There are obviously elements of Halloween that need to be clearly and concisely rejected. However, there are other elements of Halloween which can be received or redeemed. An example of received would be the history of Hallow's Eve and All Saints Day. It's a perspective for us as children of God to revel in Him.

I'll tell you, specifically, a way to redeem. Walk outside tonight in the dark with a Bible and dim light. Stop for a minute and read the passage in Relevation 7 about those worshipping under the throne and reflect on that for a little bit of time. Better, yet, find a place of rememberence for that special person that has gone on and think about the promise God gave you (and them).

Colossians 1:12
...giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

As far as how to receive - eat some candy and enjoy any children's delight that you might be so blessed to be a part of.

One good thing happened on October 31st. Martin Luther nailed his 95 Thesis to the doors of the Catholic Church!

yes, unfortunately christians have been led by a church which has be leading them down the wrong path

and because they dont question them, they blindly follow. But God has made his word available to them all, we can get his word in every language on earth today so there is no reason for ignorance in regard to what God approves of and what he doesnt. We are living in enlightened times and we each have a responsibility to ensure that our faith is in harmony with Gods standards. We have no excuse for ignorance....the times of ignorance are long gone.

2Cor 6:14 Do not become unevenly yoked with unbelievers. For what fellowship do righteousness and lawlessness have? Or what sharing does light have with darkness? 15 Further, what harmony is there between Christ and Be′li‧al? Or what portion does a faithful person have with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement does God’s temple have with idols? For we are a temple of a living God; just as God said: “I shall reside among them and walk among [them], and I shall be their God, and they will be my people.” 17 “‘Therefore get out from among them, and separate yourselves,
Do any of us really think that God is going to walk along with us when we participate in unholy festivals of the dead?

If anyone actually believes that, then they do not know God at all.

That is one reason why I have been trying to get Christians to read/study the Bible and not simply believe everything they hear in Church. One does not have to leave the Church or cause division but simply stick to their conviction, because who knows, they could change in time if they see your positive example.

amen. satan has tried to make this day his but ultimately the day of oct 31 belongs to the Lord.

where in the bible are christians told to celebrate Oct 31 as a day for the saints???

All day belongs to the Lord, so we are not bound by any law or rule that we must observe Christmas, saints day or any day on any particular day. The same way Christians take the Lord supper on whatever day they chose, then so it can be for all the days we observe to honor God.

all saints day does not honor God though...it is in honor of the saints.

the fact is that there is nothing scriptural in honoring any particular group of men because Jesus told his disciples that they must all become 'one' ... they were all equal and in the first century church, the apostles did not view themselves as saints who deserve such honor.

it was those who turned christianity into a little boys club that introduced such lofty ideas and caused such divisions among christians. I dont adhere to the idea that some christians are 'saints' while others are not. According to Christ, we are all one and all equal under in his view....so no one should be lifted up above another.

let's get one thing clear. i am very against halloween and all it's rituals. i was just merely agreeing that every day belongs to God and that Satan has tried to make this day his day. that is all. not many are as adamat about being against halloween as myself.

Well the Bible does say we should esteem others better than ourselves. But it’s not because others are better than us as an individual, its just that its the way God is.....it’s the way of those who are citizens of the kingdom of God......we honor each other....arrogant men honor themselves but humble men honor others.

this whole earth and all that are in it also belong to God, yet we read in the scriptures that the 'whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one' therefore, until such time as God steps in and removes satan entirely, every day that he exists is his day

there is absolutely no point in christians trying to change that by claiming back pagan holidays as their own... its fools gold. But i applaud you for being against halloween...all christians should be. :)

i agree with you that arrogant men honor themselves... so who instituted the ritual of honoring some people as saints? And who determines who is a saint and who is not a saint?

i agree. instead of trying to change halloween or samhain to fit it to christianity, it should be abolished completely.
