There are a lot of chess moves in this game.
If you change the immunity clause for a "former" president, not just the sitting president, then that opens up a whole closet of skeletons.
And I believe Trump would be willing to forgo his immunity in order to expose the immunity of presidents past as well as future.
However, I believe the President should have some immunity from decisions they have to make in order to keep a country functioning safe and sound. The world is a dangerous place and people have to play dangerous games sometimes.
If every move a president makes can be scrutinized and brought to a court of law, then every move would end up being tried and all presidents hands would be tied. Specially when it comes to foreign politics.
Not to mention the cost to the taxpayers filling up the pockets of lawyers.
They been trying to kick trump out since he announced his first run for president.
They spied on his campaign. They accused him of russian collusion with a false dosier paid for by the Clinton campaign.
They tried to impeach him twice. Once for a phone call to Zelensky which they lied about the audio and Trump released the transcript, and there was nothing suspect in the call. Trump was exonerated of both impeachments and that should of been the end of it.
But Trump didn't stop running. And they couldn't stop attacking him. Because their power structure is in jeopardy.
But every president has had to make decisions that not all citizens would find acceptable. Do we support Israel, or do we defend Gaza?
Everyone has their idea of the best way to handle situations. But we don't have all the information at our fingertips like the president who has intel and military and political advisors at their fingertips. We don't know what they know.
And if we could prosecute every move every president ever made, then what good is having a president to lead a country?
As long as Trump is breathing they won't be happy until they put him in the grave. They have to have the dominion or they will lose control. What they don't realize is that even if they manage to remove Trump it won't stop the movement for a vision of the country which is opposed to theirs. Same way that killing Jesus didn't stop christianity from being born.
Killing Trump won't prevent the MAGA movement. Because making America Great Again is the only way forward to a more peaceful and equal justice under the law, country.
And if they do manage to reform the SCOTUS and add more judges to the bench, then it will only be a matter of time before the scales change from one side to the other. Then they will cry about how the SCOTUS is too big and it should only be whatever they say it should be.
There are consequences for every action. And they are very very short sighted. They are far sighted for evil and power and self-gain. But very short sighted when it comes to .. what did Jesus say? Oh yeah, the weightier matters of the law.
