We can see not everyone who says they are Christians are. Some take that disguise because they want everyone else to follow the law because they do not understand that we are no longer under the law, they believe in error that the law will save them. They know nothing of Grace
there is a diff in Follow the Law and Under the Law that unfort never seems to get clarified in these assertions,
Matthew 23:3 Lexicon: therefore all that they tell you, do and observe, but do not do according to their deeds; for they say things and do not do them.
the Law = the minimum standard, and keeping the law does not = under the law wadr
Matthew 5:19 Lexicon: "Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Under the law means holding the law as a requirement; as opposed to an option that we choose because we desire to please the Lord: wherein if we fail to measure up to its standard it does not mean condemnation unless it is our hearts that are inclined towards disobedience...but if our hearts are inclined towards obedience, then there is no condemnation even if we fail, because of the blood.

All believers are called to sell their possessions and properties. Read this bible study on why this is so, and why this mandate has not changed, Sell Your Possessions and Properties | Wisdom of God .

The bible study is also available in Spanish here Vende Tus Posesiones y Propiedades | Sabiduría de Dios .
I think that Jesus was speaking to a certain man to expose where his true "Love" was.....this man was very rich....he thought he could "buy" his place next to Jesus....but Jesus knowing his heart said if you truly love and want to be my disciple then go sell all that you have and follow me....the man walked away very sad because he could not do what Jesus asked.

The idea of common ownership is to have a common cause....which is to live the life that Jesus was raised again to give to mankind. We are to be witnesses of His life by the love and life that is exhibited in the Christian community. It's what is called "church life"...and I'n not talking about church "services."

But in a day where even extended families no longer share the same life...living in and among non-family members isn't at all understood. It really cramps the style of modern people who seek but their own pleasure and happiness.

I rent and do not have a car, I have a bicycle to get around the city, and very few necessities. If you never owned a house and no car why is this teaching so hard for you to agree on? Do you have much possessions in the place you rent that you refuse to sell? We all must reduce ourselves in different ways according to what we each have. I willingly left the United States living in a penthouse and driving an exotic car, to then move to Medellin to have no car and rent a place in the poorest areas of Medellin to sleep on a floor. This is the kind of "lowering ourselves" that the Messiah wants, in order that we may then be exalted in due time.

This sounds like something you needed to do!

Me, I don't feel the need or desire to live in a penthouse, and drive an exotic car. I don't own a house, I do own a car. it's 17 years old, with 170,000 miles, a "subcompact". Is there a problem?

Much love!

We never own anything.
Not until we actually inherit anyway:

"And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together" Rom 8:17

Thanks for catching that. I should’ve added monetary items in this world

While I think there are better foundations of unity than holding possessions in common, you make an excellent point! If we are not used to living in an extended family, then when we come into the family of God we have to learn how.

Much love!

This is what we follow now:

“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40

We are never under the law, period. We as Christians are free from the burden of the law, we live under Grace, God's Grace.
