Me with my youngest grandaughter last year. It's the only one I can find where you can see my earrings.
This one is two and a half now, But I have a others who are 30, 26, 23, 21, 15 and 11.
Do you have any?
Quite an age range among them! :)

No, we ourselves don't.

So the photo shows you have one done each side. Since the late 1970s some women have gotten 2 done each side; so I guess you never considered 2nds...?

@Pearl Thanks for the 'like'.

So ppl, as regards the main focus of the thread, for young men as well as young women, would you be quite comfortable with anadolescent son / grandson getting ear piercings? so why? (or why not?)

(I guess this is not an earth shaking subject, but it's kind of contemporary and there are a lot of ideas about.)

If my 21 year old grandson did I would be ok with it and also if my 15 year old grandson did it I would be ok with it. There are worse things young men can do to their bodies. But I can't see it happening.

Thanks. (Anyway, I guess it's not an earth shattering subject...)

Do you think maybe your grandsons hesitate to do it because they think their family members might not like it? or maybe they don't really sense much peer pressure in their area to do it in any case? (In some areas nearly all the young men do it.)

Yes, it can be quite nice for young men to do, can't it? (If in fact they want it.)

@Lady Crosstalk Back a bit you said:
I say that we have freedom so "all things are permitted" but not everything is good if it offends a brother or sister.
I agree about the principle; my observation also would be that these days few would be really offended if young ppl of either gender receive studs in their earlobes; it really is rather widespread, isn't it?

To be honest farouk, I don't think it has ever (or will ever) crossed their minds. Neither of them are rebels.

Thanks for the comment! BTW, do you really think that these days it's a sign of rebellion? because as the OP quote says, so many dads have them now in some areas; and then also if mom thinks it's a good idea for a young man to do, then when the young man does it, it's hardly rebellion against them, is it?

Here it is definitely a sign of being different. Hardly any decent males have them now.

Why would it?
You said: "Hardly any decent males have them now" but I don't think it's a matter of decency or the lack of it; and I don't really think you think so, either, do you?

It's still rather widespread in some areas; and really I guess it amounts to something quite nice that some young men do, if they want it, that's all.

It did used to be fashion thing and lots of lads had a piercing, but these days it's only the ones who are from certain types of background that get it done. It usually goes with an extreme hairstyle and camo gear.

I'm sure this is a very apt observation about fashion in your area! I reckon you have been an accurate observer over the years, and still are.

Fashion is really one of things that goes like a yo-yo; first something is in, then it's out, then it's maybe in again, etc....

Frankly when it comes to studding ears for either gender it's not remotely problematic, in my humble view; just maybe a matter of where district yo-yo happens to be at any given time.... :)

I remember the first double ear piercings --- they looked kind of funny.
Now I think they look nice
@GodsGrace:

Yes they do; agreed.

If you've followed the recent posts, do you also think for young men - one done each side, maybe - can look good? (It's very widespread, anyway.)

No. I don't care for guys with earrings...
except maybe George Michael and Bono.
They seem to be able to get away with it.
Can't think of any other guy....
