@Sabertooth FYI, did you see/ vote in the poll, above?
  1. Are ear piercings fully acceptable for both genders? Biblically speaking, yes.
  2. Are ear piercings fully accepted for both genders? It depends on the community.
Just in our small town, a woman wearing hoop earrings is thought to signify availability as a whore.

@Sabertooth I guess I'm thinking particularly urban North America with many families from minorities and among those who have immigrated, among whom it is extremely widespread. I guess I hadn't even thought of the nuance between 'acceptable' and 'accepted'...

I do agree with you that in strict Biblical terms there is no bar to men and boys, as well as women and girls, doing it.

All I can say is that I've never heard that...and up here such a person may be from a preacher's daughter to a venerable matron in a conservative church.

She was shocked by it (but it was good to know).
So did her understandable shock mean she really thought that ppl widely and sincerely believed her hoops to be indicative of this?

...or did she surmise that maybe someone was trying to make cheap and snide remarks about someone from out of town?

We considered this person to be a friend, so we had no reason to presume the latter.
