Gotta go back a few verses
Isaiah 28:7 "But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up in wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment."
"They" mentioned here are those of the House of Judah. It is so easy to fall away from our Lord when you wear the crown of pride. These people have turned from what is written in His Word, to men that they have held up to a level of respect above the Word of God. They are making what man says of greater importance then what God said through the prophets. Their strong drink becomes their traditions and man made doctrines.
Their traditions are not the Word of God, but they risk their entire spiritual soul on those traditions.
When you listen to and put the law of man over the law of God, you are turning to the law of precedents. The law of precedents is contrary to the law of God because it is putting the words and traditions that are formed in a man's mind over God's law. God's law is absolute and either "yea" or "nay", "yes" or "no", it does not look at shaded degrees of right or wrong and they reason away ones guilt in arguments. Before they can come up with a decision as to what is right or wrong, they have to consider what all the brethren have to say, and they never get to the absolute of what God's Word has to say about the matter. These poor blind sheep are never fed to the point that they know completely what is Biblically correct. They are all "drunk" on their own pride, the strong drink of their own man made ideas and traditions.
Isaiah 28:8 "For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean."
Do you want to know what God thinks of their ideas and traditions? This verse tells you. Have you seen a place where the night before was filled with drunks and wildness? It is filled with filth and vomit and a complete mess. This is the way the God is looking at those that allow themselves to be deceived into accepting these ways of men, without going to His Word. When you listen to man's lies, twisted truths and traditions and act on them with any respect when they go against His Word, God considers you no better then one of those drunks lying in his own vomit and filthiness.
You can see why Isaiah was not all that popular when he looked at their words and traditions, and stated what God thought of what they were partaking of in their religious forms.
Isaiah 28:9 "Whom shall He teach knowledge? and whom shall He make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts."
This is what the religionist that have been accused by Isaiah are saying about him. There is irony and mocking within this, yet some people make a religion out of this mocking. They have taken a truth, and twisted it to the point of blasphemy. It is the people are saying this about Isaiah.
Who does he think he is teaching this knowledge? These people have so much pride that they think they know everything themselves. Nobody can tell them anything anyway. They go on in irony and ask, just who does he think he is that he he can teach us doctrine anyhow? They already have the doctrines of their leaders to follow, and just who does Isaiah think he is to go against the doctrines of our shepherds. They are saying that Isaiah is treating us like a bunch of babies. He never gets into any of the other stuff, but stays on his milk of the Word.
The reason for this was that Isaiah taught chapter by chapter and verse by verse. He started from the beginning of a book and continued through line by line, and precept by precept, in his instruction. These people wanted to go off into all direction, and see what all the others had to say about the different matters. They wanted to see what Dr. so-and-so, had to say, and what the right reverend Big-mouth thought of the Word. It was to the point were they were sick and tired of what the Word of God said, chapter by chapter, and verses by verse, lets build our own beliefs from our own traditions and doctrines. They are mimicking what Isaiah was saying as to how the Word had to be taught.
