How South Korea Reined In The Outbreak Without Shutting Everything Down
March 26, 2020
South Korea's foreign minister, Kang Kyung-wha, speaking to the BBC last week, said the key lessons from her country are that it developed testing for the virus even before it had a significant number of cases.

"In mid-January, our health authorities quickly conferred with the research institutions here [to develop a test]," Kang said. "And then they shared that result with the pharmaceutical companies, who then produced the reagent [chemical] and the equipment needed for the testing."

So when members of a religious sect in Daegu started getting sick in February, South Korea was able to rapidly confirm that it was COVID-19.

"Testing is central" to the outbreak response, said Kang, "because that leads to early detection. It minimizes further spread." And it allows health authorities to quickly isolate and treat those found with the virus.

Hong Kong and Singapore have followed similar paths in responding to this outbreak.

They've used testing aggressively to identify cases — not only testing people who are so sick that they're hospitalized but also mild cases and even suspected cases. They've quarantined tens of thousands of people who may have been exposed to confirmed cases.

The vast majority of the people ordered to quarantine at home are perfectly healthy and never do get sick, but the few who do develop symptoms can be quickly isolated further. Tedros of the WHO refers to this as cutting off the virus at the bud — basically stopping the virus from spreading further and preventing community transmission.

Hong Kong also reacted with incredible speed in the outbreak's early days. On Dec. 31, 2019, Hong Kong's Centre for Health Protection, the city's health department, sent out an alert to its doctors telling them to be on the lookout for patients presenting with fever, acute respiratory illness, pneumonia and/or shortness of breath
How South Korea Reined In The Outbreak Without Shutting Everything Down

Pretty much everything Trump didn't do. And the results are obvious. We're stuck in shutdown mode precisely because Trump botched everything, while S. Korea is moving on, resuming normal life and repairing the economy.

That's a long time in the future for us, because of Trump's failure to act in a timely and effective way.

Funny how the radical left blame covid on Trump as if no other country was affected by covid... An example of cognitive dissonance.
While the WHO and CDC were saying everything was ok, Trump stopped planes from China. The dems called him a xenophobe for his decision.

Everyone can see the errors that came from these democrat states, New York were in denial for so long they ultimately paid the price.
And now the BLM riots that are being allowed to go on for the last 8 weeks are all happening in democrat states.

There is no doubt that Trump will win the election in November, question is will the democrats accept defeat this time or will there be another 4 years of democrat tears and foul plays

Americans blame him for bungling the response. If he had done the right thing at the right time, we'd be out of this mess by now.

While the WHO and CDC were saying everything was ok

No, that's wrong.

Americans at WHO warned Trump about spread of coronavirus last year

Contrary to claims by US president, CDC experts long-advised the White House from Geneva, officials say
A dozen US researchers, physicians and public health experts, many of them from the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, were working full time at the Geneva headquarters of the World Health Organisation as the novel coronavirus emerged late last year and transmitted real-time information about its discovery and spread in China to the Trump administration, according to US and international officials.

A number of CDC staff members are regularly detailed to work at the WHO in Geneva as part of a rotation that has operated for years. Senior Trump-appointed health officials also consulted regularly at the highest levels with the WHO as the crisis unfolded, the officials said.

The presence of so many US officials undercuts President Donald Trump‘s assertion that the WHO’s failure to communicate the extent of the threat, born of a desire to protect China, is largely responsible for the rapid spread of the virus in the United States.

Americans know that Trump is lying:
RealClearPolitics - Election Other - Public Approval of President Trump's Handling of the Coronavirus

It's one of the major reasons, so many more Americans want Biden to be president.

January 31, 2021. Trump goes against the advice of the WHO and announces travel bans on China

Joe Biden criticizes Trumps decision calling him a xenophobe

The media jumped on board with their Trump derangement syndrome for the 40 days following his decision

11 March 2020. The WHO finally confirms covid to be a pandemic some 40 days after Trump banned flights from China

20 March 2020. New York finally introduces the lockdown 9 days after the WHO declared it a pandemic
bandicam-2020-07-29-06-13-33-052.jpg

Only days after the WHO declared a pandemic and while New York still hadn't locked down the media changed there approach from "Trump has done too much" to "Trump didn't do enough"
bandicam-2020-07-29-06-25-25-027.jpg

And this is all the democrats have got, tears and finger pointing. It's all they've had since Trump took office. They haven't got any policies or any plans, they can't beat Trump in a debate, all they can do is point and cry... They investigated Trump for 4 years trying to find something but they found nothing and resorted to fraud, a total fabrication of the allegations made to try and have the POTUS impeached...

Most nations were able to handle the pandemic relatively easy. Trump failed to recognize the problem, and initially tried to talk it away. That delay cost the lives of tens of thousands of Americans.

A new analysis from Columbia University finds nearly 36,000 fewer people would have died if social distancing measures had been put in place across the U.S. just one week earlier.
U.S. Could Have Saved Thousands Of Lives If Lockdown Started Earlier, Study Finds

He blew it. Fortunately, some governors picked up the slack and saved many lives. But others, in Texas, Florida, and elsewhere did not. And many Americans will die because of their incompetence, and the incompetence of the man in the WH.

See above. You missed it.

And Trump is already being held to account for his botching of the pandemic:

His incompetence is clear to the American people who, by a huge majority, blame him for failing to do anything effective to stop it. Other nations are coming out of it, but here, more and more people are dying, because he messed up.

It's gonna be very interesting in November

The democrats didn't accept Trumps victory 4 years ago so i expect they won't accept it again if he wins
They will attempt to overthrow him anyway they can including violence

On the other hand if Biden wins there is a chance that Trump will call fraud and won't relinquish power

Ideas about the importance of viral dose in the development of disease have cropped up in the medical literature since at least the 1930s, when two researchers formally noted that mice exposed to larger quantities of germs were more likely to die. More recently, scientists have gone as far as to puff different amounts of a flu virus up the noses of human volunteers. The more virus in this nasal plume, they found, the likelier the participants were to get infected and experience symptoms.

That sort of experiment can’t be done ethically for the new coronavirus, given how dangerous it is. But earlier this year, a team of researchers in China tried something similar in hamsters: They housed coronavirus-infected and healthy animals in adjoining cages, some of which were separated by buffers made of surgical masks. Many of the healthy hamsters behind the partitions never got infected. And the unlucky animals who did got less sick than their “maskless” neighbors.

Some indirect data has been accumulating from people as well. Researchers have tentatively estimated that about 40 percent of coronavirus infections do not produce any symptoms. But when some people wear masks, the proportion of asymptomatic cases seems to skyrocket, reportedly surpassing 90 percent during one outbreak at a seafood plant in Oregon. Wearing a face covering doesn’t make people impervious to infection, but these trends of asymptomatic cases could suggest that masks lead to milder disease, potentially reducing hospitalizations and deaths.

Particularly compelling, Dr. Gandhi said, is the data from cruise ships, which pack big groups of people into close quarters. More than 80 percent of those infected aboard Japan’s Diamond Princess in February — before masking had become common practice — came down with symptoms, she noted. But on another vessel that left Argentina in March, and on which all passengers were issued surgical masks after someone onboard came down with a fever, the level of symptomatic cases was below 20 percent.

Some independent experts say the paper is a welcome update, given the pervasive idea that wearing a mask is a mostly altruistic act.

“It’s been a real deficiency in the messaging about masking to say that it only protects the other,” said Charles Haas, an environmental engineer and expert in risk assessment at Drexel University. “From the get go, that never made sense scientifically.”

He will have no power. The Constitution ends his power in January, period. I suppose democrats would relish the sight of Trump being frogmarched out of the WH under guard.

I find it amazing how we have people who have double standards

they scream how the feds need to leave states alone. Yet blame the feds because the states did not do their job

it’s not trumps fault the governors of ny and California told their people to not isolate to continue to live and THEY caused the massive death rate in their own state

it’s sad the hate of one man can make people so blind to reality if the situation

It's the age of Trump.

Trump botched his duty in the pandemic, and now he's agitated that the states picked up what he couldn't handle.

You have it backwards. Trump refuses to take responsibility for anything he fails to do properly. He hates people because they blame him for his incompetence.

Im only repeating what a political commentator said in the USA.
What he explained was actually complicated but he basically said that Trump can claim that the voting was rigged and create a kind of standoff where he holds onto the power until something happens

Nope. Constitution says that his term ends in January. No extensions unless the Constitution is amended. If there's no president elected, Nancy Pelosi becomes president.

Some good news, sort of. The number of new COVID-19 infections is now down.
upload_2020-7-30_8-40-28.png

The number of new deaths usually lags a couple of week, so we should see that slacking off in about a week or so:
upload_2020-7-30_8-41-33.png
All bets are off once school opens. That will likely produce a new surge in infections and deaths.
