Baptism began with the practice of ritual immersion in bodies of running water and in mikvah pools. Over 150 mikvah pools have been discovered around the temple mount in Jerusalem as well as the enormous pools of Siloam and Bethesda. Some believe the 3000 people baptized on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 could easily have been immersed in these pools or in the pool of Siloam alone.The purpose of this thread is to share information about the history and development of baptismal practice and development.
