From way back when I watched the Gomer Pyle show when they were NOT reruns. [I also saw in the original Andy Griffiths series.] It was a pleasant surprise the first time he sang a song on the program. I remember I asked him to sign my son's baby book, he backed off believing that the space could better used. I insisted, he signed and we still have that little book with his autograph saying, "Gomer says hey!"I've enjoyed his some of his music, but never knowing what the words were.
They also are very nonbiblical in a lot of ways.
A tea-totaler I am not. I always loved beer after spending a year as a student in West Berlin [1969-1970]. I stopped getting drunk when I was converted to the Lord in 1976. Now I might have one beer once or twice a year. I've had one already in 2019, so I should be careful from this point on... Of course a real alcoholic will really need the Lord's help on this.Sure. I drink a couple beers or wine a week. As a result I cannot "reform" my neighbor drunk in a stupor, now in jail for drug sales. But I don't see that being a tea-totaler would help either. My best shot would be me attending aa meetings and inviting him along with me.
So very true.Yeah--that tends to happen in congregations who are all, "Spirit, Spirit, Spirit". Like the old adage, "Bible alone, you dry up, Spirit alone you blow up, Word and Holy Spirit, you grow up." ;)
He's quite the voice for a Pyle. Did you remember Goober was his brother on the show? From way back when I watched the Gomer Pyle show when they were NOT reruns. Some Sins are punishable by death we see in the OT, so not all Sins are of the same value you know, ...
I remember Goober but did not recall it was his brother. A lot of the details are gone from me any more...I don't watch a lot of TV as so much garbage is on and it can be time wasteful. Once in a while to relax I will put on Andy Griffiths or some other oldie...He's quite the voice for a Pyle. Did you remember Goober was his brother on the show?
Right. Goober (Judy,Judy,Judy,Judy...Judy) was Gomers brother and took over the gas station when Gomer when to military.I remember Goober but did not recall it was his brother. My Grandparents both went to Church of the Brethren, then my parents met through church events. He told somebody else he is Church of the Brethren, so this may interest you:
Peace churches
When you deliberately defend what the Bible condemns what does that make you?
I suppose I will never be able to understand why anyone who claims to be a Christian can feel comfortable defending that which God has condemned.
Now here you just listed a bunch of sins, which you claimed you were personally called by Jesus to purge from your church,You have thoroughly misrepresented what I said (that's called lying, by the way) and me (slander). I was not speaking of sexual history or other past sinful behaviors. There were former prostitutes and former greedy, swindling, tax collectors among Jesus' followers--Matthew, a former tax collector, even wrote one of the gospels. Peter tells us that, "Judgment begins in the house of the Lord..." Since you say you are a Christian, I am indeed qualified to judge your false teaching. Flagrant sexual sin in the church is what the Bible is referencing in 1 Corinthians 5, when it tells Christians to expel those in open rebellion against God (which, in the same passages, is broadened to the "greedy", "swindlers", "idolaters", is a "drunkard" or "abusive", etc.). I don't know the secret thoughts of those in my house church and have no desire to know--they must police their own thought life. I have counseled a number of women with post-abortion syndrome--why would I ever want to expel them from our house church? I said, "purifying church" for a reason. None of us is there yet, but we are not defending our sin and making it into some kind of supposed virtue.
With the exponential rise of defenders of homosexuality in the world, I cannot help but wonder how it is that many who claim to be of the Christian community can defend this lifestyle so fervently.
Can a person take full responsibility for their action when the sin nature is the rulership from within ?
When people believe no one can live above all sin, then which one is OK to do ? do we get to choose ?
So how far can a person go to condemn another person for the sinful flesh, if they have sinful flesh also ?
If you believe you are born with a sin nature.
Then maybe that is how some can justify Homosexuality as equal to any other sin.
Home will spirituality translates to the fire.
Reject the sin of the sinner.
Seems like you should be able to somehow bring a class-action suit about that. LOLMy Grandparents both went to Church of the Brethren, then my parents met through church events.
None were strong attenders. Part of the churches past is the "Quakers" who preached fire and brimstone
and shook or trembled when preaching, and become known as the Quakers.
We get no steady income from the oatmeal though.
Some Quaker is sitting somewhere watching a very big screen TV.Seems like you should be able to somehow bring a class-action suit about that. LOL
You are being ridiculous--when did I ever say that we are removing members "who have IMPURE THOUGHTS"?? You make things up and then you respond to what you have fabricated. Pathetic.
I attend a house church and I know all of the other members very well. There are no adulterers, alcoholics or divorces among us. It is not MY goal to have a purifying church--the Lord Jesus demands it.
We are not under the law but under grace. You have misrepresented what I have said and worse, what that Scripture references. I did not say that any of us were perfect--far from it. What I said was in contradiction to your accusation that we had adultery, alcoholism and divorce among us.Now here you just listed a bunch of sins, which you claimed you were personally called by Jesus to purge from your church,

(James 2:10 - For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.)
I identified the writers of the gospels as adulterers, alcoholics and divorced people???!?? You are a liar.then identified the writers of the Gospels as these same kind of sinners. That is exactly "defending our sin and making it into some kind of supposed virtue."
I do not murder people and cannibalize them. Do you? I am NOT guilty because I have been declared righteous through the shed Blood of Jesus Christ. Only the devil goes around accusing those who are in Christ. But I have an Advocate. Do you?But you read scripture and know 100%, full well you are no less guilty than Jeffery Dahmer who ate his sex victims.
Yeah--you keep harping on that but I have already answered above. But I will repeat: I AM NOT UNDER THE LAW. Since you seem to be obsessed with it, you must be still under it.For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become accountable for all of it.
Not upset at all. I really don't care what you or they do as long as you obey the civil authorities and do not insist that they be included in my church as practicing homosexuals. So I don't see why you're upset if I defend my neighbors.
Why would I care about any of that? Not one of them wants to move to Sodom and have orgies. Not one. They enjoy the company of the same sex and are homosexuals, not Sodomites which is the language in Greek and Hebrew. SODOMITES. None of my gay neighbors wishes that lifestyle. None of them want to swap partners or have multiple sex partners in their beds.
Mark 12:31
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Romans 15:2
Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
Galatians 5:14
For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Proverbs 3:29
Do not plan evil against your neighbor, who dwells trustingly beside you.
Matthew 7:12
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
If that's the case, your house church will be empty.
