Good for you for asking.....questions is how we learn answers but they must come from God’s word.
Well I was told that once we are children of God and still sin (I'm talking about unintentional sins), that it is covered by Christ, that He died for our sins because we can't do it on our own.
First mistake is not taking responsibility for the
choice to sin.
We are born sinful, which basically means that we have a propensity to make bad choices and not consider the consequences of our actions.....some of which many last the rest of our lives.
We have to understand the difference between the sin we can’t help (inborn tendencies which are not mental illnesses) and the choices we make to sin, knowing full well that it is wrong before we do it.
We drive this body...it does not drive us. If we allow it to drive us in the mistaken notion that we remain unaccountable because Christ has paid for our sin, we are sadly mistaken.
The day you become a Christian, you become accountable for your choices and actions.
The process of becoming a Christian begins by learning all we can about the teachings of Jesus Christ.
If we can then appreciate what he did in sacrificing his life to pay for our sins, we would be insulting him and devaluing his sacrifice if we continued to sin after we became one of his disciples. That would be like slapping him in the face.
Peter wrote...
”Christ suffered for you, leaving a model for you to follow his steps closely.” (1 Peter 2:21)
Does that leave room for any of us to stop following his example?
So I was wondering, what if someone had a hard time not to murder and it is their weakness so it's their unintentional sin so I learned it will be covered by Christ because that's why He died on the cross because we can't do it on our own. So then this person who has a weakness on murder and murders people can still murder and have no consequences because he/she is covered and not "blamed"? Have I learned something wrong??? Am I having a lack of understanding?
Yes...that is a very skewed version of why Christ died and what is expected of one of his disciples.
We are not talking about someone with a mental illness such as you describe. No sane person wants to murder anyone. One would hope that medical help would be available to such a person who would not be left to walk the streets and perhaps murder your mother or sister or child...
We are talking about someone with a weakness...sometimes of the mind or of the flesh, or often both. Does a weakness excuse us? If we have a physical weakness that interferes with our life, we can go to a physical therapist and learn how to strengthen that weakness....so with spiritual weakness, we can go to God in prayer and ask him to strengthen our resolve to refrain from that activity...it may be an addiction to drugs or alcohol or an inordinate sexual desire that never gets satisfied....it may be a propensity to judge others harshly....whatever the problem, the great spiritual physician can give us the ways to strengthen our resolve and maintain a clean conscience as we strive to bring our thoughts and actions in harmony with Christ’s teachings.
If we slip, and pull ourselves up and are genuinely repentant over the matter, we can count on God’s forgiveness, because Jesus sacrifice will cover any sin that is a genuine lapse, and we’re really sorry.
And! Are there some sins that will have consequences and other sins that don't have consequences? For example, it seems like murder will have consequences but there are other sins that never have consequences.
Under God’s law any punishment for sin was in line with the severity of the offence. Murder was punishable by death, but manslaughter can mean that the death was accidental...unintentional. The death penalty was not applied, but a lesser penalty was.
Also, are there some sins that you will always have to struggle with? I know the Holy Spirit might help you to stop sinning, but some other kinds of sin that is always going to be your weakness the Holy Spirit cannot help until you get to Heaven???
I do not have a hope of going to heaven because I do not see that God ever created humans to live in heaven. He prepared this earth so lovingly for us, and the other mortal creatures he created to share life with us here....
He only needed some humans to go to heaven to assist Jesus in his rulership of the redeemed humans that fell victim to Adam’s sin through no fault on their part. He died for all, but not all are chosen for a role in heaven. God will reinstate all that we lost due to the original rebellion.....Jesus came to buy back what Adam forfeited for all of us. That is what redemption means.
I want to have a discussion on this matter and these questions as I am confused about it and not clear!
Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, but understand that you will receive a variety of answers....the truth will be in there somewhere and God will reveal it to you if your heart is sincere, as your questions show.
