What is "keep the Sabbath" (in this particular context) anyway? Does it mean to identify a certain day of the week? Does it mean to set aside the full 24 hours of that day? Does it mean to give God time each week? Can that time (or day... or number of hours) ever change? What do we do if you are employed at something that requires you to work on particular days that violate such an idea? Even a priest or preacher engages in his employment on days the book said not to work at all.
Have we created a law God never intended for us to labor under?
No, none of this requires any answer at all. I was just musing.....
I know you said that it was a rhetorical statement!!! And everything you stated has a valid point, So I would say, it should say Observe the Sabbath, then Yes, Yes, Yes, and No!
what do we do if employment interferes! That my friend is a very difficult thing. In 2002 I began to try to Observe the Sabbath, At first I could manage 2 out of 4 Sabbaths a month. I worked 12 hour shifts, so I really only worked 15 days a month, OK, So then I made the decision to keep them all, I worked for this CO. for 18 years, so I could use Vacation days, and that worked Ok for about 3 years, then I finally ran out of vacation, I tried to get a different position with weekends off, they would not work with me, so I went out and found another Job, that would work with me! I had to take a 75% cut in income, but that was Ok ! eventually we lost everything for lack of income, But I do not regret keeping the Sabbath!
