An informed, honest person - no matter WHERE they live.

While we're at it - why would you reference an anti-Catholic link as "proof" for the origin of the papacy??
First sentence: LOL
Second sentence: Because I agree with it.

And I'd have A LOT more to say in a serious discussion...but you can't seem to have a serious discussion and resort to insults.

I won't converse with you when you insult me personally.
Just this:
1. Who do you suppose understands the Civil War better: Americans or Europeans?

2. Origin of the Pope

Pope (word) - Wikipedia

Pontifex Maximus had nothing to do with the pope...
It was a pagan title that existed even before Christ...
Capitolo 3 – Storia del Ruolo del ‘Pontefice Massimo’
First of all - I didn't insult YOU. I said that your claim was asinine and revisionist. It IS.
I also said that your history is WAY off. It IS.

As I already pointed out - referencing an anti-Catholic site as "proof" for the origins of the Papacy makes as much sense as asking a Nazi fair a fair-minded history of the Jews.

Finally - as to the word "Pope" - why would you even bring this into the conversation??
It's not even an official title for the Bishop of Rome - but a term of endearment.

First sentence: LOL
Now there's an "intelligent" answer.

"LOL" - the last refuge of the truly desperate . . .

I mocked your inane post - not YOU personally. If you can't handle that - then you might want to rethink spending so much time on a debate site . . .

ha, good point GG;
you are inferring "Europeans" there right
Sooooo, only an American historian can teach American history?
Does the same go for Italians?
Brits?
French?
Russians?

This is a preposterous point of view.
We're talking about CHURCH history anyway - and it's NOT limited to Europe . . .

LOL
No!
Americans of course.
And those of the North and South even more than the others.
The closer you are to something, the more you understand it.

Who understands the Queen of England more...the English or Americans?
Same thing.
They hear about the Queen every day, know her every move.
What do the Americans care what the Queen does?

Ditto for the Pope. He sneezes and it's on the nightly news.
How often does the Pope make the news in the U.S.?

So @BreadOfLife of life may not care that I live in Europe, but it does make me understand European things more; including how the church ruled here.

I said UNDERSTAND....not KNOW ABOUT them. Two different things.
Soooo, by your logic - Catholics would understand this issue better than YOU . . .

I don't mind debates.
I DO mind insults....be they given in any way.

A dumb remark is usually made by a dumb person.
Anyway, why not just CUT OUT the insults altogether and make yourself more CREDIBLE.

Been telling you this for a long time now...

So papa means daddy.
MANY bishops were called papa...not just the bishop of Rome.

Pontefice means something else.
Pontefice maximus was used way before Jesus was even born to refer to the gods of the greeks.
POPE became a title in about the 7th century or later.

Ummmmm, first of all - a smart person can make a dumb comment. I see it every day.

Secondly - I'll stop pointing out the dumb comments when you and the other anti-Catholics here stop making them.

Finally - "Pontifex Maximus" simply means "Greatest Bridge Builder".
Living in Italy - you should have known this, right?

We're talking about something YOU don't seem to grasp.

Who do you think UNDERSTANDS (not knows about) WWII better?
Americans ----- who were UNTOUCHED by the war...

Or

An Italian (or any other European) who goes by a wall in Pisa that is partially knocked down by bombs that hit it in the 40's?
An Italian who sees pictures of his home town destroyed by bombs posted in the Piazza and in many other places.
An Italian who remembers his grandparents telling stories about the Nazis.

Should I go on?

I don't make dumb comments.
Just because you don't agree with them does NOT mean they're dumb.
I happen to be an intelligent ex-catholic and AM STILL involved with the CC to this day.

What I state I know for sure.

Why "greatest bridge builder"??
It comes from the word for bridge, "Ponte".
As I said before - living in Italy you should know this.

See, your last sentence is a hidden insult.
Why do you think I don't know it?
Was I not the one who brought it up?
Do you think I'd bring up a subject I know nothing about?
Do you think a person that speaks Italian doesn't know what PONTE means!
Come on BoL...
Be nice.

I never said that YOU were dumb but you have made some pretty dumb comments because you don't do your homework.

What you state - you THINK you know. However, I have proven you wrong on countless occasions because I actually DO my homework before posting . . .

When have you EVER proven me wrong about anything??
You must be thinking of someone else.

Sorry.
You DO understand some Catholic issues - but are woefully-ignorant of others.
