Do you feel we should observe the OT Law as a means of maintaining a proper relationship with God?

The Word Law in the KJV, was translated from the Hebrew word, Torah, Torah in Hebrew means - Instruction"s, and or Direction's. I believe that we should try to keep Gods Instruction's. They were given to us as a means of how to maintain a relationship with Him, and how to maintain a relationship with our fellow Mankind. These Instruction's are not Imperative, they are indicative, Thus Free Will.

The problem is that no human can keep the law. God knows that mankind is sinful. Even Noah and Abraham were sinful. For a person to approach God with the attitude that they are being good is to approach Him denying that they need what only God has already given. His work on the cross.

God wants us to glorify His Son's work on the cross. A person's refusal to do that certainly does not please God no matter how they live their lives..

Everyone knows that the principles of living a good life is based on the law. However, for a person to think they are keeping it is being self righteous IMO.

I beg to differ! read the New Testament Witness of John the Baptist Parents, Mary's Aunt, In Luke, I believe that if you truly LOVE God and Savior! you will be obedient --- For OUR Savior Declared --- IF YOU LOVE ME KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS-- Also in the book of the Revelation, it states that Those that keep the Commandment's of GOD will be given the right to the Tree of Life.

So your understanding is that our relationship with God is still based on keeping the Old Covenant Torah regulations God gave to Israel? My understanding is that the New Covenant is not based on following a list of instructions, but in submitting to and accepting God's grace in Jesus Christ.

The Law is good, but our relationship with God is not based on Old Covenant commands (as you indicate). Our relationship with God is based on grace. Grace is not a license to sin, but neither is it just a rehashing of the old covenant that was ineffective and incapable of helping us. The command of Jesus is that we love one another. Our "contract" with God is based in Jesus' blood and not based in following a list of rules. I know you believe the NT is not in agreement on this, but I believe James, Paul, Peter and all the NT writers agree on this point. Our faith changes our life, but that should not be confused with a return to adhering to a list of instructions as a means by which we establish a right standing with God.

I think the sad truth about Catholic / Protestant dialogue is that no matter how Biblical, reasonable, and truthful a point is under discussion, Protestants will always refer back to their preconcieved idea that Catholicism is a manmade religion that has nothing to do with their relationship with Jesus AND Catholics will always turn back to their idea that Protestantism is a Catholic schism.

Unless, we look beyond differences and recognize that we are all called to love God and each other.
