I add nothing to scripture. I know that this cannot be done.I know that you will have seen this posted already...but here it comes again!!
Obviously myself and KBcid are having the same conversation as yourself and @Stranger ..
You are choosing to add to the finished work of Christ! Matt 5 is easy and so clear..Jesus is getting His point across..obviously 4000 years of not being about to keep the 10 commandment and still not penetrated their thick heads...so He loving shows them here , to get through to them by PROVING that we cannot keep the law in ourselves.
I also take nothing out of scripture. I accept it all.
Jesus knew how to speak really well. Crowds gathered 'round and listened intently to Him.
If He wanted to tell us the commandments were too difficult to keep, THIS is what He would have said.
But no. He made it MORE DIFFICULT to keep the commandments.
Please read Mathew 5 again.
Mathew 5.21
Mathew 5:28
Does that seem to you that Jesus is saying that we cannot keep the commandments, or does it seem to you that He is RAISING THE BAR?
Do you believe Jesus is trying to trick us? Why would He not be clear in His language??
I believe we should take Jesus at His word.
Who's striving?if you believe that with all you striving and effort you will end up being perfect,
I am sorry, you are somewhat if not greatly deluded. It is the impossible task.
Just like all the many verses you quoted from the sermon. Impossible. I would have thought that you could see that clearly and get Jesus' message!
Who is deluded?
What I'm afraid of is that Easy Believers will be deluded when they're standing in front of Jesus and Mathew 7:23 happens!
Are you encouraging me to sin because it is the impossible task?
It sure seems like it, although I know this is not your intent.
Matt 5: 20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
21 Ye have heard that it was said .. Thou shalt not kill; 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
Can't you see here that Jesus is so obviously showing them how IMPOSSIBLE it is??
He here raised the bar ABOVE the old ten commandments!!
Interesting. We're using the same verses but understand them differently.
You yourself has said that Jesus is raising the bar.
Is He doing that to confuse us? To make us give up in discouragement? Listen to what you're saying!
What he's saying is that the EXTERNAL keeping of the law is useless. We must keep the law INTERNALLY, with the heart.
The law is no longer written on stone, but in our hearts.
It's MORE DIFFICULT to keep, but also more possible because of the help we receive from the Holy Spirit.
Notice He speaks of- "unless your righteousness" exceeds...etc
We know, because we all can see beyond and after the Cross...these people He was speaking to were still under the old law. We are shown after His death and victory it is no longer a matter of "our righteousness" getting the job of perfection done...BUT HIS!!
This is modern day gobbledygook.
There is no BEFORE Jesus and AFTER Jesus.
What Jesus said goes.
He meant what He said and said what He meant.
This type of talk make Jesus sound dumb, to be frank.
Jesus meant that our righteousness, our BEING RIGHT WITH GOD;
had to get to the heart and not be external.
We become right with God at Justification. This is a work and gift of God. We cannot be righteous with God of our own effort.
BTW, many say that our works are as filthy rags.
Really, it is our own righteos acts that are as filthy rags.
Isaiah 64:6
but read Isaiah 64:5
God is happy with those that do good works.
Don't look so scared! As with Abraham it was his FAITH which was imputed to him as righteousness.
Salvation is by grace through faith....never ever ever can be by becoming so righteous that we finally in our own effort reach perfection!!
Who said we're ever going to be perfect?
We're good on justification."But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him."
It is all in and by Him...the Institutions are full of people who have driven themselves crazy by "trying" to be perfect.
I know..I have visited those poor people in those places. Sadly I have not managed to convince them the God sent Jesus to take our place and that -
"He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification." Rom 4
But it looks like some do not want to move on to Sanctification.
And those people you visited...
They were trying to get saved by good works.
NO ONE HERE IS SAYING THAT.
