Revelation 14:9-10
9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,
10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

The book of Revelation is a very symbolic book. In other words, it uses symbols to teach spiritual lessons. The use of the word hand is symbolic for our works and the forehead is symbolic for what we believe, because its the part of the mind where decisions takes place and moral choices are made. Those who are condemned in the end will either have the Mark of the Beast on their forehead or on their hand.

The conflict is between the religious/political entity of the Antichrist as we see in Revelation 13, where Satan, represented by the Dragon, empowers the beast to enforce its false worship which is symbolized by a mark, a name, which is represented by the number 666, on the foreheads and hands of their followers. Thus, we can see the mark, name, and number of the beast, represent the nature of the false worship promoted by them, whether in the mind (forehead) or actions (hands) of the followers.

Revelation 13:4
And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

So you have the true worship of God, and the false worship of the Dragon and the Beast power and its supporters. In other words, those who have the mark on their forehead will be worshiping the Beast and is Image which is with us today. They will stand up for the false worship of the apostate church and follow it by doing what it asks, or really are deceived and believe its false doctrines and teachings. Those who have the mark on their hand may not be truly worshiping the Beast but they follow it nonetheless, they may even be speak against some of its teaching or false worship, but their works will be in line with the beliefs and practices of the apostate church.

The context of the text reveals the difference between those who have the Mark of the Beast as they follow it and the Dragon behind it, and will find themselves losing eternal life, and those who follow God and His Law and will be in His kingdom. We see it in the words of Christ...

Matthew 19:16
16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?
17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

I believe the marks to be idioms… notice it says..

“In there forehead” what’s in your forehead? Your brain.

The hand has always been symbolic of work…

We see this this same language here….

Revelation 9:4
And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.

Well, here it the best explanation on this...
'People of all social classes will be pressured to receive the mark of the beast on their right hands or their foreheads. Just as the seal in the forehead identifies those whom God regards as His (Rev. 7:3, 4; Rev. 14:1), so the mark of the beast identifies the worshipers of the beast.

The mark of the beast is not a visible sign of any kind. Its placement on the right hand or on the forehead counterfeits the instruction that Moses gave the Israelites to bind God’s law as a sign upon their hands or their foreheads (Deut. 6:8). The right hand has to do with behavior, while the forehead has to do with the mind or mental agreement. Some will choose to receive the mark of the beast to escape the threat of death, while others will be fully committed mentally and spiritually to this apostate system of worship.

The central issues in the final crisis will be worship and obedience to God in keeping His commandments (Rev. 14:12). The Sabbath commandment, in particular, will be the test of faithfulness and obedience to God. As the Sabbath is the distinctive sign of the obedience of God’s faithful people (Ezek. 20:12, 20), so the mark of the beast is the sign of allegiance to the beast.

The mark of the beast involves the substitution of a human commandment for God’s commandment. The greatest evidence of this fact is the humanly established institution of Sunday (see Dan. 7:25) as the day of worship instead of the seventh-day Sabbath, the day mandated in Scripture by our Creator. The attempt to change the sign of God’s authority to another day is an attempt to usurp the role and power of God Himself. “The mark of the beast is the papal sabbath… . When the decree shall go forth enforcing the counterfeit sabbath, and the loud cry of the third angel shall warn men against the worship of the beast and his image, … then those who still continue in transgression will receive the mark of the beast.”— Evangelism, pp. 234, 235.

Revelation 13:18 (NKJV) says: “Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666.” Who is this man? Paul describes him as “the man of sin” (2 Thess. 2:3). This designation points to the papal power symbolized by the sea beast, whose blasphemous name on its heads points to the divine title it claims for itself, supposedly standing in the place of the Son of God on earth....'

Heya Hobie…

Revelation 13:17
17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. KJV
And how would they know who it was okay to do business with, and who it was not okay to buy from and sell to, if there wasn't some way to detect this mark? What exactly will the mark of the beast be? We can only speculate now; for, God has not given us sufficient information in the Scriptures to solve this mystery. But I personally feel that there will be some "device" or "marking" as well as a spiritual countenance. One thing is for sure; Christians shall recognize this mark of the beast before and when it is offered/demanded of them. So, It's kind of like a, you will know it when you see it, type of thing.

You, can do business with whomever you wish. It is the Beast power or entity which will spread its control over the buying and selling which we are seeing being implemented against states such as Russia and others that do not follow what the Image of the Beast which supports in concert with what the Beast wants...

Dear Hobie,
The mark of the beast represents a believer who has the spirit of anti-Christ. The mark is spiritual - just as the sealing of the Elect with the Holy Spirit (Latter Rain) is spiritual.

The "spiritual" happens within a person; between their ears so to speak. When a person understands that the teachings of the New Covenant are spiritual, the person will apply those teachings to things that happen within a person. Those teachings do not happen out in the physical world for all to see. That is a carnal understanding of scripture.

The Seven Headed beast in the first part of chapter 13 represents a believer who has the spirit of anti-Christ indwelling them. They are a "man of sin" who sits in God's temple (the believer) making himself out to be God (having a free will).

The second beast represents the spirit of anti-Christ who controls the first beast. When a believer has the mark of the beast, they cannot buy (accept) or sell (teach) to anyone except those who have the mark of the beast. Satan's power of deception is that strong. And as I pointed out in your other thread, the number of the beast is 666. The number 6 represents carnal mankind and it is repeated three times which represents a spiritual process. The spiritual process is taught by Christ in Mat 12:43-45. When the spiritual process is complete, the believer will become "worse than the first" and become the Seven Headed beast.

Since the mark of the beast is spiritual, the mark is said to be on the forehead of a believer because the spirit of anti-Christ controls the beliefs of the person's mind. The mark is also said to be on their hand because the gospel of Satan teaches a believer to follow Satan's gospel of "works" (works of the hand) mixed with faith. This mark of the beast is not a physical mark.

All new believers since the end of the 1st century A. D. have received the mark of the beast. The spiritual teachings of the book of Revelation have been relevant to all Elect believers since John received the vision. That is why the book says that the Elect will keep the sayings of the prophecies. The time for their fulfillment was already "at hand" when the book was written.

Consider this concept:

Scripture teaches that Satan masquerades as an angel of light and mimics Christ. Satan will give a new believer the spirit of anti-Christ shortly after Christ gives gives them the Early Rain of the Spirit. This is specifically taught in the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares. When a believer has the spirit of anti-Christ indwelling them, they will experience Satan's Day of Evil. In contrast, when a believer has the Baptism of the Holy Spirit (Latter Rain) , they will be experience the Day of the Lord. In both cases, Christ and Satan will rule the believer spiritually (from within).

Until a person can apply the teachings of the New Covenant spiritually instead of carnally, they will continue to misunderstand those teachings.

It is absolutely necessary to have "eyes that can see" spiritually in order to understand the truth of God. And since those spiritual eyes are a gift from God, Christ tells us to pray for the Holy Spirit (Latter Rain) which which will give us those spiritual eyes (Luke 11:9-13).

The book of Revelation is a very symbolic book.
I'd sooner say, the Revelation contains many symbols, and also contains much narrative prophecy, including the use of symbols.

I'd like to point out, unless the Bible itself says that something is a symbol, calling something a symbol lacks Scriptural authority, and is therefore someone's opinion. And further, that unless the Bible itself tells us the interpretation of a symbol, such interpretation lacks Scriptural authority, and is, again, someone's opinion, nothing more or less.

An example would be "I saw another great sign in heaven, a red dragon", this is clearly stated to be a sign, and is later defined, "that ancient serpent, the devil, Satan". Jesus, standing admidst 7 candlesticks, these are the 7 churches. These have Scriptural authority, and are not opinion.

Some interpret the 144,000 Israelites, 12,000 from each of 12 tribes, to be symbolic of something else, for instance, the church. However, this is given as a straightforward narrative prophecy, without any statement that something is symbolic, therefore, declaring something to be a symbol, and stating the interpretation, would be the speakers own opinion, and not valid Scriptural interpretation.

Scripture uses allegory, metaphor, symbol, parable, type, all the different sorts of language we normally use. We need to keep separate the actual statements of Scripture and our own opinions and interpretations.

We need to pay careful and close attention whenever we may find that our opinions are contrary to the direct statement, lest we find we've taken a plainly stated Scripture, and emptied it of it's meaning through our opinions.

Much love!

Why exactly should we not understand this prophecy to mean that people will be marked on their hand or forehead? An actual marking, on their actual body?

Let me ask a different way . . . If God were wanting to communicate to us that some would receive an actual, visible mark on their right hand, or one their forehead, something you can see on the skin, what, would you suppose, would He say to communicate this?

Much love!

There are those who waaaaay overthink scripture. Sometimes a mark is just a mark, as is the case here. The mark of the Beast will be a physical mark, making it easier to identify Christians for execution (having no mark)

Yes, and the Reformers knew what this spirit of antichrist was, but the devil has made their followers forget. They need to remember....

Dear Hobie,
Reformers??? Do you mean the protestant denominations? There are no denominations/sects of Christianity that are not under the influence of the spirit of anti-Christ. The pathway to salvation includes the Day of Evil for all new believers - including the Elect. It cannot be avoided. Even the reformers of their day experienced the Day of Evil. Most remained in that apostate condition until their deaths. They simply were not chosen to receive the Latter Rain of the Spirit and be converted.

Some translations have it as 'on' rather than 'in'. Nonetheless, 'in' in KJV language could refer to a permanent mark in (or on) the skin of the hand or forehead such as a tattoo, brand, etc.

You must be outside of the churches of the Reformation it appears. But they knew when they broke away from the apostate church of Rome who the antichrist was, but now are hesitant to declare what they once proclaimed...

Dear Hobie,
There isn't any denomination/sect of Christianity that represents the anti-Christ (Man of Sin). The anti-Christ is a term for an apostate believer. All the denominations/sects of Christianity in the world are made up of apostate believers. They all follow Satan's gospel which mixes man's works with the faith that they received from Christ when He gave them the Early Rain of the Spirit.

All believers will become apostate shortly after they are called out from the world and enter the church. No one can avoid it. There are many places of scripture which teaches this truth. Take the Parable of the Wheat and the Tares for example. After Christ comes to a person and plants the seed of the Holy Spirit within a person, Satan will quickly come to them, too, and plant his seed of the spirit of anti-Christ within them. Both the Holy Spirit and the spirit of anti-Christ indwells the new believer which causes them to "fall away" because they try to serve two masters. When Christ "comes again" to the believer (time of the harvest), He will pour out the Latter Rain and heal the believer's spiritual blindness. With "eyes that can see", the believer will come out from Satan's deceptions and "see" the Abomination of Desolation that had previously occurred within them. This is the same event as when the Man of Sin is revealed to the believer and they discover that they are this Man of Sin. When this happens, they are to flee to the mountains because judgment is about to fall. At that time, the spirit of anti-Christ and the Great Harlot are removed from within the believer and cast into the Lake of Fire for destruction. After this judgment is complete, the believer will only have the full measure of Holy Spirit within them. This is their moment of conversion and salvation.

If a believer has not seen the Abomination of Desolation as I described above, they are not converted and saved. There are no exceptions to this pathway that Christ has laid down for the Elect to travel.

Do you understand the teaching of Revelation chapter 11? That chapter is a teaching on the pathway to salvation the Elect will travel to their salvation. When Satan kills the Two Witnesses (represents one Elect person), that event is caused by the spirit of anti-Christ entering the believer and causing them to fall from grace. They fall from grace because they commit the one and only sin that leads to death. That sin occurs when the believer mixes their own works with faith. All believers will commit this sin shortly after they receive the Early Rain of the Spirit. After the Two Witnesses lose their salvation (are killed), they will remain in this apostate condition until they receive the Latter Rain of the Spirit. The time the Elect person spends in this apostate condition is symbolized by the Two Witnesses lying dead in the streets of earthly Jerusalem (also called Sodom, Damascus, and Mystery Babylon the Great Harlot) for 3 1/2 days. Those symbols all represent the Elect believer's worsened carnal nature. It was made worse when the spirit of anti-Christ entered them (Mat 12:43-45). After the 3 1/2 days are fulfilled, the Two Witnesses will receive the Latter Rain. At that time, the Elect believer will rise and ascend to heaven (same event as Mat 24:29-31 teaches).

Do you understand why an apostate believer (Seven Headed Beast in chapter 13) has a deadly head wound that has been healed?

The head wound by the Sword (Word of God/Christ) represents when Christ gave the person the Early Rain of the Spirit. When they received that blow to their head, they were a child of the Devil and their "head" was Satan. But before that blow causes Satan (their head) to die, Satan indwells the believer with the spirit of anti-Christ. When that happens, it heals the deadly wound by Christ's sword and the believer becomes an even worse child of the Devil. The resulting apostate believer is called a Man of Sin, an anti-Christ, a False Prophet, a Minister of Satan and a Seven Headed Beast.

As I said, the pathway to salvation includes becoming an apostate believer shortly after Christ gives a person the Early Rain of the Spirit. We all must spend our 40 years of tribulation wandering in the wilderness just as the Nation of Israel "typed". Only the Elect (Joshua & Caleb) will live to cross the Jordan River (a type for the Latter Rain) and enter the Promised Land (salvation).

There are those who waaaaay overthink scripture. Sometimes a mark is just a mark, as is the case here. The mark of the Beast will be a physical mark, making it easier to identify Christians for execution (having no mark)
Not only to overthink, but also miss the primary reason for the mark. It will be a way of controlling people.

btw, it is the mark of his (the beast's) name.

Revelation 14:11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

The three visible things that will be required in order to buy/sell in the beast's economic system will be...

his name
the number of his name
the mark of his name

The key is the name of the beast person. None of the explanations so far have declared what that person's name is or may be.

Dear Hobie,
There isn't any denomination/sect of Christianity that represents the anti-Christ (Man of Sin).

Dear Hobie,
As I have been presenting, the prophecies are spiritual and are individually fulfilled within the Elect. I have already experienced the Battle of Armageddon in my own life because it occurred when I was converted. At that time, the natural sun (Satan) and the natural moon (carnal nature) were darkened and I began to receive knowledge and understanding only from Christ (New Sun) and the Holy Spirit (New Moon). After my spiritual blindness was healed, Christ appeared to me and gathered me to heaven. Because this happens to all the Elect before they die, Christ comes quickly to them.

If you are still looking out into the world for the end-time prophecies to be fulfilled and for Christ to return, you will miss His second coming as most of the "many" have for the past 1900 years.

Much love!
Good point. One interesting theory is that the mark of the beast will be a computer chip, surgically implanted under the skin, by a totalitarian government wishing to exercise total control over its citizens. "Right hand or forehead." Certain people may have been injured and lost their right hand or even their whole arm, so in that case, the mark would have to go in their forehead. Can't buy or sell without the mark. The mark would be something that is scanned (just as products in a store are scanned when you purchase them).
