can you say me it
I have a songwriting hobby.
There are 45 song demos posted on soundcloud, com username/pagename: Motorist Sketchbook
I can plug a guitar right into my computer and record at home.
Typically I go to a recording studio to do vocals. Well worth the expense.

Most of my recent work has been collaboration projects, which I enjoy as well.
I get a lot of requests for lyric writing. And a few guitar solos.

I played all the instruments, including vocals, on this one. Lyrics below.

Title: Wheat Penny (1944)
Track Time: 04:11 / BPM: 87

VS 1
Something caught my eye down at my feet
Looking closer - what did I see?
Was it really nothing - or something sweet?
- A wheat penny - looking back at me

CHORUS
Wheat penny, wheat penny,
where have you been?
How did you get here today?
Can you tell me - all that you've seen?
If you could - what would you say?

VS 2
The date on the penny - 1944
Eleven years older - than me
A time long ago - at the start of the war
The great conflict - across the sea

CHORUS

VS 3
Headline news about - the D-Day invasion
that happened in - Normandy, France
Was that the day - that you were minted?
I suppose there - might be a chance

CHORUS

VS 4
Hard being devalued - over all of these years?
Not like life - when you first appeared
Hand to hand - you were - passed around
From cash drawer - to pocket - all over town

VS 5
Do you remember - being shiny and new?
Or the piggy bank hammer - that set you free?
The Five and Dime store - or the trip to the zoo?
C'mon now - why won't you - talk to me?

My dad was a crewman on a Navy E-2 weather spotter aircraft on Guam back in the '60s. He was the Avionics Tech/chef -lol. He cooked at home a lot and encouraged my interest in it.

What sorts of things do you like to cook? Probably healthy dishes? (knowing you)
Have you entered any recipes in a contest?

/

I really like dishes that consist of something atop something else like rice and chili. Or Cincinnati chili which is kinda like chili on top of spaghetti noodles. Everything's better with chili on it—probably even ice cream, although I've never tried that. I spent about half of my childhood on Guam so everything was rice with something on top, or it seemed like that, anyway. I've never been in a contest but I do all right, I guess.

Last night we had polenta (that's what it says on the bag but I think it's grits - lol) with onions and mushrooms on top.

I'm not crazy about mushrooms at all but polenta really pretties them up, to me.

I thought polenta was a fine ground pasta. (wheat)
Whereas grits (hominy) are corn?

I think it's just Italiano for "grits" or something.

It often comes pre-cooked in a roll like breakfast sausage.

Could you be thinking of orzo or couscous?

Hominy grits are made from corn specially treated with an alkaline solution.

My folks are from Tennessee so I possibly know a little too much about grits and other weird southern stuff. :)

I like grits. But I LOVE sausage gravy on biscuits. (not good for me, I know)

At a local restaurant, grits was an option. I had never tried them before, but wanted to,
I was sold. I ate grits as a hot cereal breakfast for some time. Just add butter. Yum!
