Money ain’t everything.

"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10)

covetousness goes further than just stuff; it includes the desire for popularity ie, to be a somebody irrespective of how big or small the fishbowl is. Jesus includes the words 'all kinds of covetousness'

Luke 12:13-21.

That’s what a paraphrase bible translation is good for - here it is in the GNB:

Luk 12:13 A man in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, tell my brother to divide with me the property our father left us."

Luk 12:14 Jesus answered him, "Friend, who gave me the right to judge or to divide the property between you two?"

Luk 12:15 And he went on to say to them all, "Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because your true life is not made up of the things you own, no matter how rich you may be."

Luk 12:16 Then Jesus told them this parable: "There was once a rich man who had land which bore good crops.

Luk 12:17 He began to think to himself, 'I don't have a place to keep all my crops. What can I do?

Luk 12:18 This is what I will do,' he told himself; 'I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, where I will store the grain and all my other goods.

Luk 12:19 Then I will say to myself, Lucky man! You have all the good things you need for many years. Take life easy, eat, drink, and enjoy yourself !'

Luk 12:20 But God said to him, 'You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself ? ' "

Luk 12:21 And Jesus concluded, "This is how it is with those who pile up riches for themselves but are not rich in God's sight."

Luke 12:13-21.

Great question maam. Jesus was pointing out basically that we don't need to accumulate large amounts of goods for survival. Pointing out the fact that where your treasures lie, your heart will as well. A popular worldly saying is that you cannot take it with you when you go, which is so true, your accumulation of riches basically will go to make someone else happy. Jesus pointed out how storing up our treasures in heaven is more beneficial, as those are the riches that can give one everlasting life.
