Why didn't Lot just leave Sodom when he first found out about their wicked practice?

Since the sins of Sodom and Gomorrah bothered Lot so much, why didn't he move away before God destroyed the cities?

2 Peter 2:

5 if he [God] did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
Noah was a preacher of righteousness among ungodly people.

6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8(for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard).
If it bothered Lot so much, why didn't he move away?

Lot might have seen himself as setting a good example for the men of Sodom and Gomorrah. He knew what they were doing was wrong, Genesis 19:

6 Lot went out to the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, 7 and said, “I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly".
God placed Lot there to set a good example, so they had no excuse. Like Noah, Lot was a righteous witness for God's law among lawless and ungodly people.

The answer to the title question i would say is. That Lot was respected in Sodom and living in comfort. He trusted in his instincts rather than Gods intervention. Abraham had to solely rely on God. That isnt easy because Abraham had to wait years before the promises God made to him, started to come into his life. But Lot saw an easy catch. Lots faith must had been weak for the people of Sodom not being offended at his devotion to God. As rebellious homosexuals. Homosexuals are usually very hostile towards Christian who do not agree with their rainbow message. Even the children wanted to have sex with the angels. It says everyone came to Lots door. Unless there were no children but i find that hard to believe.

Well,
When LOT got taken captive as well as all of Sodom things changed for Lot....

Lot lost everything. His only means of survival were to be part of Sodom. Especially since he chose to be separate from Abraham. And LOT could not go back to being part of Abraham's family....he left in a huff. Abraham had rescued him but he still was wanting to do his own thing.

So even though Abraham cared about Lot....there was no helping him. He had chosen to prove Abraham wrong.

There's a lot more to the story....but....you aren't asking about that stuff.

This is an insightful example of being "in the world, but not of the world"

Thanks for bringing it up!

Sodom had reticulated water and power. The grape vine a convenient telephone. Public transport accessed the whole area. Business was on the up and insurance and rates affordable. Apart from a few noisy neighbours and rough nuts in the square, he managed quite well. Why live in a tent when brick walls offered a semblance of security?

We don't know when Sodom became corrupt. It's possible when Lot relocated to Sodom, it wasn't as bad then. He may have gotten used to the wickedness over time like a frog in boiling water.

So true. Wonder why churches are not tents so that they can be expanded easily to accommodate the people as they come to know God.

I wish they were. All those funds spent on self glorifying structures, quiet frankly make me chuck.
