..if you and your non-denom friends DON'T have a Pope like figure leading you how do you fulfill Hebrews 13:17 and Matthew 18:17?
If Jesus is ultra simple to understand then why so much division in Christianity? Logically you are wrong. And Scripturally you are wrong: 2 Peter 3:16..

1- Jesus is leader of me and my non-denom chums because he said- "You have one teacher, me" (Matthew 23:10)
unless you can suggest anybody better than him..;)

2- 2000 years ago most ordinary people couldn't read so of course there had to be church leaders around who could, in order to read the scriptures to them..:)

3- Right from Day One people began misinterpreting, over-complicating and twisting the scriptures, which is why Paul had to slap them on the wrist with-
"I am worried lest you be led astray from the simplicity of Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:3)

And sometimes he had to crack a few heads together to knock some sense into them-
"I already gave you a warning when I was with you the second time. I now repeat it while absent: On my return I won't spare those who sinned earlier or any of the others" (2 Corinthians 13:2)

We could certainly do with him around today..:)

Hi Scott,

You are right! Me and my ilk proudly repeat Christian history:

Historically Christianity is liturgical.
Historically Christianity accepts the Real Presence in the Eucharist.
Historically Christianity taught that baptism is necessary and saves.
Historically Christianity has taught and practiced Apostolic Succession.
Etc
Etc

Since you and your ilk generally reject these things you reject the teachings of Christ and the Apostles....and we know how that will end for you.
That is not at all what I said--and you know it.

Nor do I "reject the teachings of Christ and the apostles", but have brought them to your attention first, which you now reject.

Typical. And what is written of false witnesses?

But the Pope and all catholics happily go along with all catholic doctrine.
Ummmm....Yes, we "go along with all Catholic doctrine"! We do like the bible says hold to "sound doctrine": Titus 1:9, 2:1

And the doctrine of The Church is available online for all to read. Where can I read your non-denom sound doctrine?

1. Ok...Jesus is your leader AND teacher. So when you and your chums get together and you disagree on the Truth of what Jesus is teaching which one of you decides who is right and what the Truth is? Which one of you has the authority for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)? And which one of you is twisting Scripture (2 Peter 3:16)? Which one of you is speaking the Truth that will set you free (John 8:32)?

2. Your theory makes no sense and is not what Scripture teaches. Logically, having the ability to read does not change the Truth in Scripture. A person can hear the word and still discern the Truth of it. Does Scripture say once everyone was able to read Christianity no longer needed Church leaders? It doesn't say that so your theory is interesting to say the least.

3. I agree. From day one "people began misinterpreting, over-complicating and twisting the scriptures". That is why elders of The Church were chosen by the Apostles; to lead the people and to teach/hold to sound doctrine. Use Scripture to correct, reproof those who started teaching a different Truth! If they weren't chosen by the Apostles then they were not of THE Church! Paul wrote his pastoral letters to guide those elders.

1- Ah, but who's to say Catholic doctrine is "sound"..;)
2- My non-denom doctrine is Jesus-centred,
Jesus said:-"You have one teacher, me" (Matthew 23:10)
and you can't get more sound than that, here ya go..:)-

Each of us is responsible for our own discernment of the Bible and what others teach. Because each of us has an anointing to discern what is truth and what is not:

20You, however, have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.c
26I have written these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you.
27 ...the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you.
1 John 2:20-27

This is a clear Biblical truth that Catholics reject. You blindly relegate all matters of discernment to what has become a corrupt and Spirit-less leadership. You're free to post in this forum but I'm just going to tell you that you're not going to score any points among us Protestants. There's a large chasm between us and you and for a very good reason. We reject your scripted, Spirit-less, works justification religion.

In the Bible!
They will not accept this answer because they have been told only the leadership of their church knows and discerns the truth. In Catholicism, the sheep don't hear the Master's voice. The sheep hear the voice of their leaders who, they say, have heard the Master's voice.

The Church has Spirit-less leadership?

Is Christ then a false prophet?

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.

None of them should decide what is truth until they all agree. They each go away and pray. They pray as individuals and they pray together. Then they study again. They pray for the truth to be revealed to them. And they keep studying and they keep praying until they come to understand. To do this they need two things... To be honest concerning their own inability to understand without God's help, and to have a love for truth...a love that says 'whatever the truth may be, we shall obey'.

And if tradition contradicts the Bible, they run with tradition. Which means they have invented an entirely new religion than apostolic Christianity... Despite their protestations to the contrary.

No. The Catholic church organization does.

Then please identify the 2000 year old community that fulfills Christ's promise..

If Rome is your stumbling block, then come to the Feast with Alexandria, come with Constantinople.. But Come!

The Catholic Church from the 6th century on took it upon itself to destroy that 2000 year old community. But Jesus promised that hell would not overcome His work in the world despite the numerous attempts to accomplish otherwise. Rome made an enemy of every Christian community everywhere she had power. Those who didn't surrender to papal authority were sizzled.

If this is so, where is the community that has stood through all of that? Where is the stone that has become a mountain and filled the whole world? Where is the mustard seed that has become the greatest of trees?

Where is the city set on a hill that cannot be hid?

So according to you the church elders are infallible? There is no single person who has all the truth, which is why even the apostles disagreed with each other. So saying that "from day one people began misinterpreting, over-complicating and twisting the scriptures" is entirely accurate.
