Since Jesus said born "again", we can understand Him to mean that one who has been born once before, was born of the flesh already...which comes forth from the water. Meaning:
1 Corinthians 15:46

Water baptism is a gesture, a public statement of faith. It's a way to build fellowship among men.
Recall the criminal on the cross next to Jesus. He received no water baptism yet Jesus himself said, "Verily I say unto thee, today shalt thou be with me in paradise." (Luke 23:43).
where does scripture make this assertion?

A sacrament is an oath! A sacred promise from God! Ez 36:25-27

A sacrament is an outward sign for all men including infants And a gift from God to help us see what he does inwardly and invisibly by his grace!
As grace Washes our souls in the merits of Jesus blood from original and personal sin, so the outward action of washing is visible!
without the outward action the inward action cannot take place!

The only reference in scripture to “faith alone” is James 2:24 NOT BY “FAITH ALONE”?

How can you enter by your own if it must be ministered to you? Baptism is done unto you, “not do it yourself by faith alone”

How can salvation be nearer than when we first believed if you’re saved by believing?
If salvation is by “faith alone” then faith would be the greatest!

To be "born again" is to be "born from above" meaning born of God.
In regards to the word "water" in John 3:5, there are those who would argue that the natural sense of the passage parallels "water" with being born out of a mother’s womb (verse 4) and with "flesh" (verse 6). Simply stated in that case, Jesus told Nicodemus that in order to see the kingdom of God two births are necessary. The first is a physical, literal, "flesh" birth (which is, of course, accompanied by amniotic "water") and the second is Spirit.
Also notice that Jesus mentions "living water" in John 4:10, 14; 7:37-39 and in John 7:38-39, we read - "He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the source of living water and spiritual cleansing. If "water" is arbitrarily defined as baptism, then we could just as justifiably say, "Out of his heart will flow rivers of living baptism" in John 7:38. If this sounds ridiculous, it is no more so than the idea that water baptism is the source or the means of becoming born again.
John 4:14 - but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus connects living water with everlasting life and living water is not water baptism.
Also in scripture "water" is used as an emblem of the Word of God, and in such uses it is associated with "cleansing or washing." (John 15:3; Ephesians 5:26) When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begets new life, so that we are said to become "partakers of the divine nature." (2 Peter 1:4) The new birth is brought to pass through "incorruptible seed, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever" (I Peter 1:23), and the Holy Spirit accomplishes the miracle of regeneration. So to automatically read "baptism" into John 3:5 simply because it mentions "water" is unwarranted.

The correct Biblical terminology is "righteousness apart from works" Romans 4:6. "Faith alone" is another subject (James 2:24). You are confusing the two.

theefaith doesn't seem to understand the difference between faith that trusts in Christ alone for salvation (Romans 4:5-6; Ephesians 2:8,9) and an empty profession of faith/dead faith that remains alone - "barren of works." (James 2:14) He is unable to see anything beyond his Roman Catholic indoctrination and is determined to "add" works to "salvation through faith/righteousness apart from works" with a heavy emphasis on water baptism.
Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Ez 36:25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.

righteousness apart from our involvement refers to the redemption of Jesus Christ not justification or sanctification or salvation
