Yes I have. I hope I’m forgiven for that. I am.

example: the parables. I had to get an NIV Bible for help.

i think about pre-internet when you had to ask somebody to explain.

Important messages.
One has to be a little careful about asking "somebody to explain." If they are wrong, and we adopt their way of thinking, then we are wrong, too.

Holy Spirit does speak. He is the Spirit of Truth, the Spirit of Christ, the Comforter. I have heard Him speak to me, bringing scripture back to my remembrance when I needed it. When He speaks, it's exactly what I need at that given time.

John 10:27
[27]My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

John 10:4-5
[4]And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
[5]And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.

@montana2manila if you want to learn to hear His voice, get more Word.

Romans 10:17
[17]So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Faith comes by hearing (God) and hearing (God) comes by the Word of God. So it starts by knowing God's Word.

Although kidding in demeanor, I am serious maam, God does not speak to individuals literally, nor does Jesus either. God reveals what He wants us to know through the assigned faithful slave. Mat 24:45-47 If you are hearing voices from the spirit world, it is not God, and I would pray to Jehovah in Jesus' name for intervention, before things escalate.

Today's wimpy pol-correct snowflakes don't like God because he's too tough for them..:)

But I like him BECAUSE of his toughness, we don't want a soft indecisive flip-flopping God..:)

I personally like Justice sir. Perhaps one of the most logical and best laws is an eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth if you know what I mean. But keep in mind, love is Jehovah's dominant quality, so any justice He administers needs to be done in love. Some logically question seeming differences between Jehovah and Jesus, yet Jesus did everything exactly as Jehovah would have had He came in Person. The truth is, all of us live in a time period where Jehovah is allowing satan to be the god of this world, so until the Kingdom comes, and satan is ousted to the abyss, we will not see the actual contrast between the Kingdom of God and of satan. Although it is yet future, we are very near to the Kingdom coming.

The Bible isn't a book that one can read and "get it" on the first pass, or even the first few readings. It's something that needs to be studied.
@MatthewG recommended getting a good study Bible. I also like what @Robert Gwin wrote about using multiple versions of the Bible. Great advice from both members. Even though I'm Catholic, I also have a good (Catholic) study Bible, filled with footnotes, cross-references and commentary. Also, there are some decent websites that are helpful when it comes to translations.

One thing about studying the Bible is to take your time. Some days, you might be able to get through several Chapters. Other days, you might get stuck on a passage, a verse or even a word. Some people highlight the passages that resonate with them. Others use post-its or even start a Bible journal for their own questions and/or comments.

Remember, there are some Bible Scholars--those who make it their life's work to study and interpret the Bible, who still don't understand all of it. So, all in all, don't be too hard on yourself.
@Mink57 Bible study reminds me of climbing a high mountain: it can take much effort and planning to go up it, painstakingly; but from the summit there is a glorious panorama, denied to those who stay at the bottom of the mountain.

(Of course, the work of the Holy Spirit in granting light and understanding is essential as well as diligence in reading and study.)

My point. I’m dissapointed I am cannot understand fully the entire meaning. I’m just overwhelmed. But I guess this is the point. God is an overwhelming and beyond real. It takes lifetimes to begin to understand fully.

Im on my way..

To help your Bible studies...

You can download a FREE software at biblesoft.com called One Touch.

It contains many Bible versions (not the NIV though), and many scholarly Bible study tools that are easy to use. It has Bible dictionaries, Bible commentaries by scholars, and even whole books of past Christian scholars.

It means you can really speed up your Bible study. Instead of having all those Bible study tools in books open on your desk, thumbing through pages, it's all at your fingertips through the software. And if you buy the intro version, it has even more tools, and then you can buy more modules later, individually.

And did I say all that is FREE for the initial version?

Never disappointed.
Confused often, until the Spirit revealed the meaning.
Left wondering how can they say it says that too many times.

Until I learned how to study the word in context, rightly dividing and making sure spiritual verified spiritual and leaned on the Spirit for guidance, I had only a superficial understanding of what it was God was seeking to gain through us.

Growing doesn't happen overnight nor in a yr or two but we must drink of the milk which is easily digested them progress to the meat of the word. Some try to choke others or even themselves with things that are not well chewed and hard to swallow.

I don't know if you're a new child of God or not but I say, pray before, during and after study and the light will gradually lighten your whole soul, heart and spirit !

Blessings

Have you ever been disappointed in what you read in the Bible?
Sure......on several occasions. I s'pose you want to know why or where?
When God is portrayed in OT accounts of ordering genocide, drowning people or burning them I am disappointed that the writers had such a poor view of God's character.

Hebrews 1:1-3 tells us that God is just like Jesus.....in fact, I've learned that his whole purpose in becoming a man was so we could get a first hand view of what God is like......and for the life of me I cannot imagine Jesus doing the things which some of the OT writers attributed to God.

Hebrews 1:1-3 In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Sounds like a vain attempt to re-mold God Himself! What vanity.

When God told the children of Israel to go literally wipe out seven specific nations in the land of Canaan, per Deuteronomy 20, that was after He had given them 430 years to repent of their wickedness.

Likewise, when Jesus returns in the future, He is not coming meek as the Lamb slain, He is coming this next time with a two-edged sword for a slaughter. And there will be many slaughtered on that day. And then His future reign with His elect is going to be over the nations with "a rod of iron" (Psalms 2).

So if you want to follow views from the world, fine, go to, but don't try and slander God in His Word for what He has done in the past, because He is watching.

I've never had this, would love to but...not so sure I can hear well enough.

It was soon after I came to God, so I don’t think it’s based on any strong ability to hear but on God choosing to do it. And it only happened once to me, when I was in great distress over something early on. But the four words have been my sole focus for 16 years now. I think it hasn’t happened again because I didn’t need any other words. The words were “do you trust Me?”

Thinking on this a little further, yes I DID hear Him two times, once was while on the floor, prone in the depths of depression and I called out to Him like never before and in my mind came "My grace is sufficient for you" (which changed the whole trajectory of my walk) Then, during another dark period I asked Him "Am I really yours God"? In my mind immediately came "He who started a work in you is faithful to complete it until the day of Christ" so, yeah...maybe the same thing. Oh yeah, also, when really angry at this certain person, I heard simply :just love them".

I had locutions once. It was four words. They were at my left ear, coming from outside of me. I even felt breath on my ear. I was the only one in the car.
I think it’s rare, but you say it’s impossible.

Its the illocution that needs to be understood, as to the importance of what is heard.

Understanding God or if you like, understanding the bible from your perspective which you demonstrate above, places you in a position which is not that different to the understanding which most of the people of the world have of God. Even insurance companies 'blame' God for certain events.

Jesus challenged that view of God and demonstrated the truth of God......it had him killed.
