Ummm. Not really because I think that you are reading into it what is not there. The one thing that I crave is to prosper in understanding the word of God. If I was a poor as a church mouse but prospered in understanding his word I would feel very rich. As I said in another comment, to prosper can mean prospering in the number of soldiers you have in your army. I have a feeling that God's prospering is when you do well in whatever it is your involved in. It could be money but it could also not be money so to make a blanket statement that it means he wants you to have a lot of money is drawing a longbow.

Jesus said you will always have the poor with you...which said ONCE covers two things ...(the Natural and the Spiritual)
One is called being:
Poor in needs
Another is called being:
Poor in Spirit

You are talking about the richness of a spirit that is Not poor, and I agree.

But Scripture also Address a man who does Not Provide for his own family...that is also Two-Fold...
1) Needs (food, shelter, etc.
2) Spiritual teaching, exampling, practice

And to this, for a man who does Not Provide for his own...is called Worse than an infidel!
Wow, Worse than an unbeliever...

There is an element here of Needs expectation to be met, for a man who is Not poor in Spirit.

I believe God provides the Way, Path, Intervention for a man in the Spirit, to have a helping hand up to get him on track to meet his needs.
(And I am not talking about being a lifelong burden on another), but rather truly a helping hand up.

I believe that is prosperity.
Some people Do much to Glorify Gods Name and receive more than they need, and DO with that as they will.

We can see lavish lifestyles...and criticize...yet Gods knows their heart.
I could care less who has material things galore.
I have had Nearly Everything I own, tools, housewears, furniture, clothes, heirlooms, keepsakes...a house full Stolen (except my Bibles and FEW other items)...was sick to my stomach...but yet I was still Rich in the Spirit.

Glory to God,
Taken

"prosperity" is not the gospel nor is it a gospel.

"Health and wealth" is not the gospel and neither is it a gospel.

However, these things are spoken of in the word of the Lord to a limited degree;

And teaching the reality of them at times when a teacher is in that place in God's word where the subject matter is being spoken of, as he moves through the Bible chapter by chapter and book by book, is not preaching a false gospel but being honest with the word of God; not denying the reality of these doctrines just because they have been spoken against by the director of the Christian Research Institute.
id have to agree there, as far as that goes; but it becomes pretty obvious when the focus is warped i think jbf, when say the vv that paint a diff picture are ignored, or worse, argued against? I am def a believer in pressed down, shaken together, running over ok but usually when i even have that, which is a lot more than i deserve lately--dunno why, doesnt seem to follow any pattern--my peers look at me like im nuts when i make some remark to that effect anyway, iow they dont agree that i have it all that good?

So, like the first post in meme dump comes to mind?
Psa 35:27, Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.

Psa 118:25, Save now, I beseech thee, O LORD: O LORD, I beseech thee, send now prosperity.
ok and no offense ok but when i read those entire psalms to yall you arent going to like it so much eh, as usual i guess. At least the context def changes when the whole psalm is read, doesnt it. "Prosperity" like yall talkin about is surely not the point of either of those psalms?

The first is a contrast to those who sought his downfall, and the second is some other contrast, right?

so i mean no offense but we basically got professors quoting "TO BE absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" all over again right? Which i mean yall can read like that if ya want, but i mean pls

i suspect it comes from reading archaic Englyshe, maybe, this failure of context?
honestly, is "prosperity" the point of either psalm there?

unfortunately "seed" in that context is now "$" right, instead of concepts or selfless actions.

Got any Scriptural examples of that?

2 Corinthians 9:6 and its immediate context. The immediate context makes it to be referring to a financial seed.

In order to make it be talking about the seed of the word of God, you have to utilize a 1 Corinthians 2:13 (kjv) hermeneutic and compare it to Luke 8:11.

That is what the scripture basically says in 2 Corinthians 5:8.

I do believe that it is referring to those who are in Christ and not to those who are not in Christ.

Context never nullifies the plain meaning of a verse. This is a first rule of hermeneutics.

For some reason when I hear the word "prosperity" I think of burger rings on fingers, I haven't had burger rings for a long time though. :p

None of us would have any argument against the truth that Good does bless those that give. And the more we give, the more God blesses and gives more that we can give more. That is the very purpose of God's gifts... That we may supply the needs of others. The whole of creation was designed that every facet of creation supplies the needs of another. We are all, by purpose, dependant upon something else or someone else for our well being. Even in the natural world, plants, animals, birds, insects, supply the needs for another.
But the prosperity preachers do not preach that message. The focus is not on giving from a heart of love in order to supply the needs of those less fortunate, as that usage in 2 Corinthians expressed. The prosperity preachers are just that... And you and @GISMYS_7 are doing the same... Give so that you can be rich. It is selfish, and the motive is all wrong. They preach that the purpose of giving is to become wealthy. It isn't. It's to supply others needs.

Apparently you haven't read all of my posts on this matter in the three threads that have applied to this subject over the past week or so (two of them are now in the unorthodox section of the boards).

I have sought to bring a balance to the equation.

I am not saying that we ought to do things in order to obtain wealth, in the sense of making wealth the #1 priority in your life.

What I am saying is that it is not necessarily a sin to have wealth (see 1 Timothy 6:17).

I don't have a lot of wealth myself; and I also am not seeking wealth; but if the Lord decides to give me wealth, I am not going to let the devil beat me over the head telling me that I am a sinner because of it. I have prayed the prayer in Psalms 118:25; but I am doing nothing in any kind of effort to bring in the goods that I am praying for. While if the Lord were to give me an idea for something that would produce an income, I would not hesitate to utilize that idea in an endeavor to make money.

It often takes money to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ.

If someone is seeking material wealth, I believe that they would fall under the category of what it says in 1 Timothy 6:10. That is one thing...covetousness.

But if you are in fact testing the Lord on what He says in Malachi by bringing in your whole tithe into the storehouse...well, you have to trust God to bring in that blessing that is so large that you will not have room enough to receive it. And this blessing may be material or spiritual in my book, see Ephesians 1:3.

And if you are in fact giving 10% of your income, how is that covetousness? If the Lord saw you as doing it out of covetousness, I would venture to say that He would not bless you financially over your giving into the coffers of the church but that rather He would choose to bless you spiritually by taking away your covetousness. Maybe He is testing you by telling you to give.

I know that my wife and I tithe faithfully and also give a small offering every month. And the Lord has not seen fit to bless us financially over this except with the recent stimulus checks that were sent out to everyone. He has primarily blessed us spiritually. We are blessed because mammon doesn't have any kind of hold on us. We know this because we do not hold back from the Lord what is due Him even when it seems that we might not make it that month. It is a matter of trusting in Him for your provision. The lilies of the field don't toil or spin...and yet Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Consider the fowls of the air; for they don't sow or reap or gather into barns...yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. We don't have to worry about what we shall eat or drink, or what we shall wear; because we know from experience that the Lord supplies all of our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

God says my people perish for lack of knowledge. Do you choose to accept or reject the blessings and gifts of God?? Your choice!
Prosperity destroys more lives than it helps. The burden of money is worry about it being taken away. And wealth breeds superiority,I am better than you.

Even here you claim superiority by accepting a blessing and condemning others who do believe it is true. In reality this is just a wishing well that the crooks in the middle empty everyday.

There are so many stories of the poor and desperate giving there all to the wishing well in the hope of buying God's blessing. Unfortunately they will just buy futility and judgement....
If they gave to the poor and walked in Jesus's ways, that is true blessing, treasure in heaven.

Hey...I don't believe that "prosperity"..."health and wealth" is the gospel.

I do know that the Bible speaks on the issue in a limited fashion and that there are some who have lambasted those who have taught faithfully on the subject.

I believe the subject ought to be addressed when it comes up in the word, as it is being taught through chapter by chapter and book by book.

It is also okay to talk about it when the subject is broached in a conversation, such as on the three threads that have recently developed here.

I try to strike a balance with these doctrines.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and John 3:14-16.

The subject matter here ("prosperity" "Health and Wealth") is touched on in the Bible...but it is not the gospel.

The things mentioned in the word of the Lord on this subject can be edifying for the body of Christ.

Again, I believe that there has been unnecessary division in the body of Christ over this subject.

I have never heard any of those stories...were they giving the established 10%?

Mal 3:8, Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Mal 3:9, Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
Mal 3:10, Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
Mal 3:11, And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
Mal 3:12, And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.

Yes!!! Some deny the truth of all God's Word and some just the parts they don't like!
The bit like, seek First the kingdom of heaven.. than all these things will be added to you. Flesh is far to easy to please.

It is a very wonderful thing to know that you don't have to worry about what you will eat or drink or wear...

And you can have this lack of worry if you put your trust in God...seeking first His kingdom, and His righteousness...then all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33.
