Is the Bible a book telling mankind about how God has dealt with man in the different ages or is it a rules book?

Not just history...but God's love story, from beginning to the end. :)

The Bible contains both history and rules, but it should have an infinitely more important role to those with Holy Ghost in them. As those dead words are quickened by that Holy Ghost, then they become Life in us and we approach more closely what Jesus is [John 14:6]. We move closer to the fulfillment of this verse:

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." I John 3:2

It is his testimony. It was given by him to holy men to be recorded so we may know his thoughts, expecations, his works and his inheritance to us.

It contains history, rules but more importantly: his covenants and the condituons thereof.
