Another Christmas over, and for what? More gifts given off a predetermined, approved list; (Gee, I hope you like what you told me to buy you!) more food eaten. Shoppers flocking to stores hours after claiming they are grateful for all they have. I say I will boycott it every year, but I still get suckered into the big Christmas whirlwind. Most of all I'm tired of hearing the regurgitated "Jesus is the reason for the season", as this cannot be further from the truth. Greed, gluttony, and self-satisfaction are all reasons for the season.

If Jesus is the reason for the season, let the season be the years of your life. Let the reason be, to spread his love through your actions and words. He is the reason we have life, faith, hope, and love.

Welcome to the forum! You seemed to be quite displeased with yourself. As to your complaints about Christmas perhaps it is too little too late! Man has done his usual thing and you have jumped on that band wagon. That wagon has been passing your way since before you were born to woman. No one prepared it just for you. So how was it that you were first "suckered into" it?

The good thing is that it is over for now. The bad thing I would guess is that next year is coming.

Thank you for the welcome amadeus. I am a little displeased with myself. My extended family, (who I could best describe as agnostic jews?) weren't to happy when I mentioned my wife and I would just have a small Christmas with our children instead of the big family pow wow. After a little guilt and some Scrooge references I bent to their will. Maybe next year a "spontaneous" trip may be in order;)

I have been there and done most all of that myself. My wife and I have moved away from our family on these things as well as moving 50 miles away physically several years ago to make their visits to us less frequent. We do love them, but sometimes in some things love works better from a distance. We went to visit them on the Sunday before Christmas and shares a nacho dinner with the greater family group. My wife and daughter-in-law instigated that first time ever change from the traditional courses offered. On Christmas day my wife and I ate a nice steak dinner alone. We had no visitors that day. What a wonderful world it can be... sometimes!

Keep that spontaneous trip in mind!

Personally, I love Christmas. I give to those family members who need what I give... Nothing senseless or decorative or superfluous to requirements. This year 150$ food voucher for my daughter and her family.
But I love Christmas because it's a celebration of family. We don't celebrate the birth of Christ, although as opportunity presents itself, we use the time of year to share the true message of the gospel... But the day belongs to family.. Enjoying a great meal including the left overs... Sharing time. And time together as a family is the most precious gift... So long as your family isn't totally dysfunctional and weird... Praise God mine isn't.

Daughter and her family are going through a hard time... No gifts for any of their kids this year.. So a150$ food voucher was much appreciated. Wish I could afford more.
