Yeah, the “death panels”. *Yawn*. Fact is that the average life expectancy is highest in countries with some form of universal healthcare. You’ll also find that it’s countries with universal healthcare that are the least corrupt. Also most of these countries spent less money on healthcare for better results than the US does.

Don’t know much about Hippie-communes in the 60’s, but I do know that the oldest monastery still around was founded at around 300 AD. Quite impressive, don’t you think?
As for Acts 4:32: If it doesn’t work anymore, it’s probably because there’s too few Christians around who take their faith seriously enough to pull it off. Most of us (including myself) will go the way of the rich young man in Matthew 19:16-26. However, don’t fret: while I admire all Christians who did and do, I’m not expecting you to give up all your possessions and live in a Christian commune. Point of Acts 4:32 being that Christianity at its core is about sharing and not about the selfish individualism promoted in our neoliberal capitalist world and regurgitated by some American Christians who’ve seemingly internalized conservative catchphrases more than they internalized the Bible. If you need more:
“3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” (Philippians 2:3-4)
I’m all for private charity, the more the better. But seeing that there are places in the US that are so poor that they are plagued by third world diseases, it seems that in spite of all these pious US Christians there aren’t enough charitable donors around to build a social net that works for all. It’s more as if the rich just give some crumbs to look good rather than being willing to pay taxes for the kind of “new deal” that
did effectively help the poor.
So can you me give me any reason other than the personal selfishness, you've expressed, why ‘Bible-believing’ Christians living in a democracy should cast their votes for political programs that will disadvantage the poor and oppressed rather than helping them?
