When I read such verses as Galatians 3:10, they tell me that I am not to live a life that is in bondage to the law as a set of do's and don'ts that tells me how I am supposed to behave.
I am not under the law (Romans 6:14) am dead to the law (Romans 7:4, Galatians 2:19) and am delivered from the law (Romans 7:6).
Because I am led of the Spirit (Galatians 5:18).
All the law is fulfilled in the singular commandment, "Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." (Galatians 5:14).
If I stop worrying about the condemnation of the law and just begin to focus on loving other people, everything will fall into place.
The only way I can honestly do that is if I am forgiven of past, present, and future sins through the blood of Jesus Christ, and have received His Holy Spirit into my heart as an influence through which I will have the love of the Lord shed abroad in my heart (Romans 5:5).
As I live according to that love....as I do things motivated by that love in my heart....I will find that the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in me...but not because I am seeking to obey the law.
Rather, because I have entered into a relationship with the Holy Spirit (Jesus Christ) where I am obedient to the leadings and promptings of His love in my life.
There is no more condemnation coming from the law for the believer (John 5:24 (kjv), Romans 8:1a).
What defines me as a believer is that I walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1b).
If I focus on walking according to the Spirit, I will not walk after the flesh (Galatians 5:16).
So it is best to just put away the law as a factor that condemns you when you violate it; and just to begin focusing on doing that one thing that fulfills the law...loving on other people.
As one saint of the last generation put it, "Jesus, reduce me to love..."
Now, if I turn away my ears from hearing the law, even my prayer shall be an abomination. I need the law to tell me that I am a sinner (Romans 3:20). Without it, I may in fact begin to deceive myself thinking that I am without sin (see 1 John 1:8).
And it is also a good thing to look into the law of perfect liberty and to continue therein; not as a forgetful hearer; but as a doer of the work (James 1:25).
This is because the law gives us specifics on how to love God and neighbor.
So then, if I have the integrity spoken of in Matthew 5:33-37, for example, then I am acting according to a specific tenet that tells me what God's love is all about.
But if I go and say, "I will obey every specific tenet", I have missed the boat of relationship and have reduced myself to a religion based on a set of do's and don'ts.
What I need to do is seek the Lord as to how I can obey Him every day, as He speaks to me through His Spirit what He wants me to do. And He may indeed do that through His word.
But I need to be certain that what I have is a relationship and not a religion.
So then, it is a matter of looking to the Lord for His direction every day (Psalms 123:2).
