You’re mistaken. This is what he said: “Sure names are interchangeable.” He used the word sure as an adjective modifying the noun names. If he were saying yes, he would have offset the word sure with a comma, like this. “Sure, names are interchangeable,” but this still wouldn’t have been a clearly affirmative answer. Perhaps you understand him because you both tend to be less than articulate. :)

I don’t have a high IQ. I just know English. Did you not pay attention when your English teachers were teaching grammar? I used to tell my English students that they would be glad one day for learning what I was trying to teach them. They didn’t believe me.
