    Hello there,

The subject of 'Inheritance' has been occupying my mind for several days now, e.g., the fact that though Abraham and his offspring were to inherit the land promised, Abraham subsequently had quite a different hope in view.

This is just one of the trains of thought associated with this subject, taking in the Apostle Paul too, and the inheritance that was his, both through natural birth, birth from above, and the change fresh revelation brought in regard to it.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this subject?

Since Abraham is the metaphorical *father* of all those who believe on Christ, his inheritance (along with that of all the OT and NT saints) is an eternal and incorruptible inheritance reserved in Heaven. Abraham looked for a city (the New Jerusalem) which has foundations, whose Builder and Maker is God.

At the same time, since Abraham is the actual ancestor of the twelve tribes of Israel, after the second coming of Christ those tribes (redeemed and restored) will inherit the land promised to Abraham, and which will extend from the Nile to the Euphrates. See the prophecy of Ezekiel.

Inheritance is given to the Son of God. Those in Christ, those who have received new life in Christ, share in that heavenly inheritance, which is eternal life.

And then again, any heir who dies before the end of his course cannot inherit because he is dead.

    Thank you for your input.

My thoughts still have to be formulated, so I cannot comment at the moment, but the pot is on the stove, and the ingredients have been added, all I need is to cook for the time appointed, then it will be ready to serve. :) (God willing)

    * There is also God's Own inheritance of course, both in the earth and in the heavens. (Deuteronomy 32:9; Psalms 33:12 and Ephesians 1:18).

    Praise His Holy Name!

That has no application though,@ amadeus, does it? Not according to God's reckoning. For in His estimation we have died with Christ, been buried, quickened, raised and ascended with Him to God's right hand, where we await His appearing: when we shall appear with Him in glory; for death has no power over those whom He has redeemed: to hold them for ever; for they only await the resurrection out from among the dead.

    Praise God!

'In whom also we have obtained an inheritance,
being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His Own will:
That we should be to the praise of His glory, who first trusted in Christ.
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation:
in whom also after that ye believed,
ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance
until the redemption of the purchased possession,
unto the praise of His glory.'

    (Ephesians 1:11)

'Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,
    Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him:
    The eyes of your understanding being enlightened;

that ye may know what is the hope of His calling,
and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power,
Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places,
Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named,
not only in this world, but also in that which is to come:
And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church,
Which is his body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.'

    (Ephesians 1:15-23)

    Praise God!

    Hello @Enoch111,

Surely that inheritance described as being the lot of Abraham and those of like precious faith listed in Hebrews 11, is quite different from that described as applying to the Church of the One Body in Ephesians chapter one. It cannot therefore be the same sphere of blessing, nor the same blessings allotted in both cases.

    - The New Earth
    - The New Jerusalem
    - Heavenly Places in Christ Jesus

    * All differing spheres of blessing, for differing companies of the redeemed.

Unto the praise of His glory. : 1 Peter 3:9-11 Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. [10] For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: [11] Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.

(imo)the inheritance is his enemies —in hated for His name sake—-for His mercy and forgiveness and blessing to be sown and manifest. consider when He comes to “give” according to what is sown...James 3:16-18 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. [17] But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. [18] And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

to give according to what is sown...God’s glory in sowing “blessing” instead of the curse.
Proverbs 25:21-22 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: [22] For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee.

Psalm 127:3 Lo, children are an heritage of the Lord : and the fruit of the womb (From above)is his reward.

    Hello @VictoryinJesus,

You have brought a new viewpoint to be considered.

    * Whoa! If our blessing is in proportion and character to that which we have sown, how careful we should all be to sow what is good!!! Yes? :)

    * So, you equate 'inheritance' as 'reward', to be enjoyed in resurrection life? Yes?

Sorry but there is only one eternal inheritance reserved in Heaven for the saints. Abraham is a partaker of that inheritance.

The inheritance and the rewards of the saints are two ENTIRELY DIFFERENT things. The inheritance is purely a gift of God's grace. The rewards are for faithful service.

    Hello @Enoch111,

Are you sure that is the testimony of Scripture?

Look at the description of both that which is to be enjoyed in the New Jerusalem which will come down out of heaven to the new earth, and that spoken of in Ephesians chapter one, which is to be enjoyed in Heavenly Places in Christ Jesus. Do you see a similarity?

Yes. I am sure. *Heavenly places* (literally *the heavenlies*) takes us to the New Jerusalem.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly* [places] in Christ: (Eph 1:3) [Note: "places" is in italics, therefore in brackets, because it is not in the text itself]

    Thayer's Greek Lexicon
    *STRONGS NT 2032: ἐπουράνιος (epouranios)
    b. the heavenly regions, i. e. heaven itself, the abode of God and angels: Ephesians 1:3, 20 (where Lachmann text οὐρανοῖς); Ephesians 2:6; Ephesians 3:10; the lower heavens, or the heaven of the clouds, Ephesians 6:12 (cf. B. D. American edition, under the word ).

The New Jerusalem is presently located in the third heaven (which is God's Heaven). God, Christ, the OT saints, the NT saints who have passed on, all the holy angels, the heavenly Sanctuary, and the blood of Christ sprinkled on the Mercy Seat, are all in the New Jerusalem. So are the mansions prepared for the saints, and so is the inheritance reserve for the saints.

Many Christians are unable to visualize a cubic city (with probably multiple *stories*) which is also the size of a continent. Constructed entirely out of heavenly precious materials. But that is our eternal home. And it will become a heavenly body in the New Heavens and the New Earth.

You presume that I believe all the things that you believe. Do heirs not die at times before they inherit in this world of men on planet Earth? That is a type of what can happen spiritually to one who has met the Master. Those really believing in OSAS may be unable to see this.

I believe that sometimes people lose their love of truth before finishing their course and having moved then into a delusion they die spiritually before their time is up. To do that is foolishness, but there are many foolish people... as Adam and Eve were foolish.

I think David nailed it in Ps 16
"The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot."

The Levites had the Lord for their inheritance...they had no earthly land inheritance like the other tribes...He was their Gift.

Gen 15 " the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram:
I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward
    . "

He is more than ENOUGH. :)

With respect, @amadeus, I presume nothing. I simply expect someone who is a confessed believer in the Lord Jesus Christ to have a knowledge of His Word and to believe it.

Yes, a believer can lose His love of the truth and grow cold spiritually, but that does not negate the promises of God.

    Hello @Enoch111,

You have the Word of God concerning the New Jerusalem, as I have, and of those who will inhabit it. It is not for me to argue this point with you. for you, like myself are in God's hands. The same applies to the state of the dead, and the resurrection, which we appear to differ on if I understand your words correctly.

Christ rose far beyond all heavens (Ephesians 4:10), that He may fill all things: and 'In Heavenly Places' is where the blessings of the church which is His Body will be enjoyed throughout eternity. The New Jerusalem will come down out of heaven to the new earth, and will be the abode of a very select company, but it will not be that of the church which is the Body of Christ.

    With love in Christ Jesus

lay up treasure in Heaven. For inheritance ask: what treasure did Paul lay up in Heaven...a crown of righteousness. Glory? Even Abraham ...the blessing was children. Even fruitful land in be fruitful and multiply...what is the fruit of the loins of compassion. Doesn’t Matthew 5:43-48 Speak of God as perfect? “Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. [44] But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; [45] That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. [46] For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? [47] And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others ? do not even the publicans so? [48] Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

“...for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.“

The promise of feed your enemies and heap coals of fire on their head. We see this promise fulfilled, yeah? Consider Stephen and the young man named Saul they who stoned Stephen laid their coats at Sauls feet. Stephens cry to God to forgive them. “...for he makes his sun to rise” ...did God’s light rise on Saul? Did God’s light rise on Evil destroying the works of evil? Don’t forget Paul said he was an enemy of the church and wasted it. Acts 22:6-11 And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. [7] And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? [8] And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. [9] And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. [10] And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. [11] And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.

All the times God says they WILL hate you For My Name Sake...then the instructions and promise to intreat...bless those who curse you. Overcome evil with good. Yes, He comes ‘to give’ according to their works. “Bless” and curse not in blessing overcomes the curse. Will God “give” the blessing over the curse? All nations will be blessed through those of Him is the inheritance...

Really sorry for my presumption! Sometimes I let myself get out of hand, presuming worse for others than is really the case. I have too many friends who also love God, but do not follow the pattern into which I find myself. I was just reading Romans chapter 14 this morning and it reminded me about difference. I do sincerely apologize.

I am dwelling a bit on the end of this time on corruptible flesh for so many I have known as now another old friend is now hospitalized with lung cancer stage 4. I have a ever growing list on my computer of people related to me by blood, marriage and friendship that have left the stage so to speak. That combined with reading old new clippings, obituaries and browsing my collections of thousands of photographs, I realize more than ever that He is ultimately the Hope for each one of us.

    Give God the glory!
