Just curious. Thank you for your time.

No immortal soul? The quest to find out if souls go on or not.

Many people are spot on sure, souls do not go on.

If you can't find a verbatim scripture, it wouldn't make sense to post.

If you would like to post, you will not be condemned for sharing, or what you may believe.

What does that mean to you?

Didn't God give us part of him, when he created us, (mind/will/emotion) soul?

Just trying to figure it all out, ya know?

Love to you Lambano,
Matthew

In the immediate context of the verse:

12 Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Eternal life is something God calls us to, and we must take hold of it. It was not given to us when God breathed the breath of life into us and we became living souls.

Let me rephrase the question,

What makes you think that there is no immortal soul? You can quote scripture, and I could too but can you quote a scripture that directly states, "There is no immortal soul"?

It's understandable - that newness of spiritual life - which is eternal (age-during) life - comes starting when you come to Christ, in the death, burial and resurrection. That doesn't have anything to do with the question though.

Love you, Lambano,
Matthew

There is no doubt that God can ruin a person, first their body rots in the grave, and ruin (destroy) comes separated from Paradise, in the prison part of sheol, and Jesus was said to go preach to those people there.

Will you be able to answer the question my friend?

Or is this your answer that there is an immortal soul?

Or is this your answer that there is no immortal soul?

Love you brother, may the Spirit guide,
Matthew

Man had not previously existed in any form before God created him from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life .....and man became a living soul. He didn't get a soul, he became one.

The breath of life God gave is the energy which activates the formed dust. Its source is God. It is not a conscious entity any more than the electricity that brings a light globe to life when the power is turned on. When the electricity is turned off, the light goes nowhere, it just ceases to be.
In like manner, when the breath is withdrawn the soul goes nowhere, it just ceases to be and the dust goes back to where it came from.

Thank you for sharing what you believe that is your opinion as far as soul not being immortal. I respect you and your opinion.

Can you quote from scripture that it is true, though or it just something one believes?

Another question is, when one dies, do they lose their self? The soul is the self, that is has the same attributes of God (mind/will/emotion). Your soul, is your heart, at least that is something that is my opinion.

If you wish not to answer, that is okay too.

Love you, quietthinker,
Matthew

Anyone who is willingly to take this challenge, just know.

I will not make fun of you, or be harsh on you because of your beliefs or your opinions.

You are able to have freedom to think and have your opinion and openly say it.

My encouragement would be always to seek out for God, and be encouraged to think for yourself, and not just agree with what someone may say as it could be true, but it could not also be true.

My own opinions may or may not reflect the view of others. Challenge yourself, and test all things, by the Spirit that God gives unto you, who is a teacher and will help you find truth, even though we may not know for certain - every single aspect that the bible may present, as some information we just do not know.

God bless you, and your families.

What makes you think that there is no immortal soul? You can quote scripture, and I could too but can you quote a scripture that directly states, "There is no immortal soul"?
First of all, what is a "soul"?

7 Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7)

A "soul" is a life, and our life comes from God. We exist only because He created us and sustains our life. We live only because He wants us to live.

4 Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die. (Ezekiel 18:4)

23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

Therefore, all souls die.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

Immortality is a gift from God in the Lord Jesus Christ.

25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-16

This is the meaning of Christ's own Resurrection - prototype of our own.

This is called "Conditional Immortality". For those who have attention deficits and dislike long strings of scripture, I apologize.

Let me address that one.

As you know, I am a Greek word-nerd. The word used is ἀπόλλυμι ("apollumi"), and means to destroy, to perish. The usage everybody knows is John 3:16, "...shall not perish, but have everlasting life".

So no, I don't think "ruin" captures the intended meaning.

Okay.
4 Behold, all souls are Mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die. (Ezekiel 18:4)
How do you explain that?
23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 8:23)

Therefore, all souls die.
What does it mean for a soul to die? Is that death in as spiritual sense, or death in a psychical sense? How do you explain that?
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

I just do not know. There is so much the bible has to say, compared to a condensed list of things like this.

Though a soul can die, does that mean it will not be resurrected?

A mind can die by to much porn. A will can die by being manipulated. A emotion can die when there is no more hope? A soul? What is a soul? God's given breathe of life born into the body of a baby born into the world. (A mind/will/emotion is given).

Another question that comes to mind is that, with all the people in the world that have died, even just today, where do they go?

Did they die, with no spiritual life - and not resurrected? What would be the point of God raising Jesus's dead body if his soul wasn't around in hell?

Hey @quietthinker

Something that came to my mind, in your reasoning is do you think that God is willing to not have any perish?

Sheol/Hades? Do they exist in the mind of God, "who brings life from the dead and calls into being things that do not exist" (Romans 4:17-18)?

Recreating you and me from nothingness is child's play compared to whipping up a whole universe from scratch and completing the project 14.3% ahead of schedule. (The Genesis account doesn't say if the universe project came in under budget. I guess there are some things even God can't do.)

Forgive me, I replied to hastely.

Not so sure what it is you are saying. It seems as though you are not really sure where they are going. Why did you quote Romans 4:17-18? That doesn't seem to go here at all. What does that mean to you?

I don't understand your second reply at all.

People may share what they will here. You, and others have the freedom to object, or not and I will respect and love you the same as everyone else who may come by to answer the question.

Does the soul that dies; still become resurrected? Jesus Christ, was a soul in hell, and God raised him up from the dead, therefore ... what does that make of the soul going on forward, or is 'immortal'.

There is a scripture somewhere that calls us human being are called gods, by Jesus, in John 10:34, but what does that mean? Do we have part of God inside of us, and become born again when that part of us is awakened, but even if it is not that; that part of a person goes on to be resurrected?

Or does the soul of an individual cease to exist?

This topic is highly debated, world-wide surely, and it is a topic that sticks out like a sore thumb.

Love to you, Lambano,
Matthew
