Abraham did not have a church. He related to God. Noah did not have a church...he related to God...Methuselah did not have a church.....he related to God...Enoch related so well to God , it says "He walked with God.."

What you are saying is, without a church or without a bible we cannot function in or connect to God.

If you were dropped onto an island alone, without your church ...would you have no relationship with the Father!! ????

But does religion mean "church"? I don't recall James defining religion as specifically having to do with church service, but its really solely about his relationship with God and how he conducts himself with others.

Well, the fact is James never defines "religion" within the confines of a building, nor does he use the word "church". Keep in mind to, that there will be no church, or temple within New Jerusalem either, because God IS the temple.

(Revelation 21:21-22) "And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass. {22} And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it."
