What does the Bible say about the roles of men and women? Are those roles based on the culture of the time or are they part of God's plan for humanity? Is Feminism a threat to Christianity? Is it a positive or negative force?
The Bible places man and woman side by side (the woman was made from the man's side!!), but male chauvinism tries to place the woman behind him, and feminism tries to place the man behind her. It just won't work until we take up the roles and the places that God laid out for us.
I think it depends on what 'feminism' you are talking about. If we are talking of equality for women, in perhaps direct response to how they are treated within the bounds of Islam, then yes, the Bible teaches it and we should hold it up no matter the day or age.
If you are talking about the trend of some women attempting to actually force men behind them, then no, it's not Biblical, and I do not believe it should be done, even in light of this 'modern' age.
It's not an issue about 'who is more important'...God made men and women equal...equal in thought, mind, heart...equal in His love shown for them. It's simply an issue of roles. A business simply cannot function with all CEO's, or all night cleaners. A marriage, a church, a community, can only grow in strength, when both men and women work together. And God, in His wisdom, has shown us what we should do, what He has made us to do, best. He has made men to be the head...not an easy task. And He has made women to be helper...also not an easy task. But wonderfully complimentary.
God is never changing. The nature of sin is never changing...so I do wonder why we try and make the Bible and it's teachings exempt just because 'culture' has changed. The important things (both good and bad) never will, so I can't help but believe that the Bible is timeless.
If Christ is in the person speaking... that's all that matters...
I guess it would look like Christ... or as Jesus said, "You will know those who are taught by Me because they will love one another"
The Biblical role of men is to rule over women, but in love, not as a dictator. The Biblical role of women is to submit to husbands and to submit to men within the Church. This is the ideal which is seldom reality. Each individual will be judged by God for their actions.
" This is the ideal which is seldom reality."Are you saying that men and women rarely practice this ideal?
This is dependent upon the women, since Christian men rule over submissive women. They do not force them. What does it mean to rule over women in love?
The first part is for the husband, the second for the wife. What is the difference between loving your wife like Christ loves the church and submitting to your husband in love?
We will be judged individually. Some commands are for women, some for men.Sounds like two different ways of saying the same thing to me. Love each other.
We will be judged individually. Some commands are for women, some for men.
Each of us must be submissive to those over us.But Christ loved the church through submission......submission to death on a Cross
Each of us must be submissive to those over us.
No Scripture? Of course not.Which is not the point of my post.
Jesus loved the Church through submission. Therefore, loving our wives means serving them, just like they serve us. The bottom line is love....not 1st century roles.
No Scripture? Of course not.
That's what Christians are supposed to do Aspen. Live by the Scriptures.Ah the Ducky Dance!
If the post sounds good, but disagrees with my point of view demand a verse.
Narrow is the way, and FEW there be, whether we like it or not....once you entertain an idea outside the literal, narrow-minded; SAFE interpretation of scripture.....it is slippery slope to HELLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
I just thought I would save us 30 or more exchanges by skipping right to the end.
Here is the scripture, by the way:
Ephesians 5:24-26
Where does it say the husband is to submit to the wife??? It doesn't.Pssssst: The only conclusion is love through equal submission
