'For by grace are ye saved
through faith;
and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
Not of works,
lest any man should boast.'

(Eph 2:8-9)

Hello there,

The fact that the word, 'faith', is followed immediately by the word, 'that', has led some to teach from this passage that 'faith is the gift of God'. There is such a thing as 'faith, the gift of God', but it is a special gift to one who is already a believer (1Corinthians 12:9):-

'But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
To another faith by the same Spirit; ... ... ... '

(1 Cor. 12:7-11)

* Faith is the medium through which we are saved, and grace is the cause, 'it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure'. (Romans 4:16). Grace imparts, faith receives.

* It is SALVATION which is the gift of God, and not faith, which is simply the medium by which it is received. It is a grace by faith salvation that we have received by the mercy of God.

Praise His Holy Name!

ALL THREE are the GIFT = GRACE, FAITH, TRUTH = YAHshuah HaMashiach = Jesus the Christ = SALVATION

Jesus therefore answered and said to them, “Do not murmur among yourselves. No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.

For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;

To another faith by the same Spirit;
to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
To another the working of miracles;
to another prophecy;
to another discerning of spirits;
to another divers kinds of tongues;
to another the interpretation of tongues:
But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit,
dividing to every man severally as He will.'
(1Cor. 12:7-11)

'And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three;

but the greatest of these is charity.'
(1 Cor. 13:13)

Hello there,

Faith is one of the gifts of the Spirit observable during the Acts period, which 'abide' still.

* Yet the faith through which grace is administered unto salvation is not in that category. For it is the act of believing what has been heard of the gospel of God concerning His Son the Lord Jesus Christ which enables grace to work unto salvation.

'But what saith it?

The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart:
that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus,
and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead,
thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.'
(Rom 10:8-10)

through faith;

it is the gift of God:
Not of works,

Prime example of why the Bible has to be taken as a whole Chris. Faith does not guarantee life, nor does works, both are involved by capability. Jesus told some zealous workers that had done many powerful things in his name that they were workers of lawlessness, why? Because they chose to worship their god in their own way, rather than doing the will of Jehovah. Mat 7:21-23.

If a person wants to secure their receiving salvation, they must choose right now to stand on Jehovah's side of the issue maam.

ALL the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are Active according to His Will.

NEVER believe the LIE of cessation of Gifts = carnal rebellion against the Spirit.

It's a foundational point! Thanks. If faith ensured salvation, it would be a work.

I recall a sermon years ago that God is not obligated to react according to one's strength of belief. As you said, it is not He who acts per our belief, faith or will but we who must act according to His Will.

Yes sir, I fully agree. I am really interested in how it plays out in all honesty. The Bible indicates at the return of Jesus most will be executed, I can only teach what the Bible reveals, but it does throw up some red flags in my mind.

Great question David. There are two God's vying for supremacy, Jehovah and satan. You have to personally choose to stand with Jehovah on the issue of Sovereignty, which is standing on His side. We do this by our dedication publicly, and accept His rules and regulations by observing them. The sad fact is that satan is the default god, you do not have to do a thing to side with him, I wish it was the other way around, but I can see it no other way as recorded in God's word.

At any rate there are two roads, one representing Jehovah which will result in life, the other which results in permanent death along with satan.

'For by grace are ye saved
through faith;
and that not of yourselves:

Not of works,

(Eph 2:8-9)

Read the verse like this.....

"For by Grace you are saved Through Faith.:

Stop.

Now......notice this part.... """IT, is the gift of God."""
= That is a different thought and a different meaning.

The Gift is not Faith....The GIFT = is the GRACE by which you are saved.

See it?

So, this is a verse that traps many into a false misunderstanding, as they are reading it as "faith saves" and "faith is the gift".

Reader.....Just remember that what SAVES you, has to DIE ON THE CROSS FOR YOU and walk out of the GRAVE Resurrected from the Dead.
Reader, if you will get that down, and installed as your TRUE FAITH, then you can deliver yourself from a CULT that may have you mind-trapped.

How to escape?? How to know if you are in a CULT ?

Apply a test to your THEOLOGY and FAITH.
Apply a Salvation test to what you have been taught saves you, and what you believe does.
So, whatever it is........ did it die on the Cross for you?
Did it DIE on the Cross for you, and walk out of the Tomb, resurrected?
If it didnt, then it is not the Savior, can't save you, and has no part in your Salvation.

Here are a few examples of what did not DIE on the Cross for you and later walk out of the Tomb, so, this means that none of these can save you.

1. Mary
2. The Catholic Church
3. Water Baptism
4. Trying to be like Christ
5. Commandment keeping
6. Law keeping
7. Enduring to the end
8. Your Discipleship

See all those?
They did not die on the Cross for you, shedding blood for your Salvation. And they are not Resurrected from the Dead.
And that means if you are trusting in them, you are NOT Trusting in Christ.
This means you are "fallen from Grace" or you are water baptized, religious, and LOST......hell-bound, thinking you are saved.

Listen,... only Christ on the Cross offers you the WAY to Heaven. John 14:6
Put your Faith THERE.....and keep it there.

Where can a person read this in the Bible?

Mat 7:13,14 Dave. You likely realize that salvation is receiving the gift of everlasting life right? Rom 6:23 Those who are not saved will be cast into the lake of fire, created for satan and all those who belong to him (Matthew 25:41) . . .“Then he will say to those on his left: ‘Go away from me, you who have been cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the Devil and his angels.

Therefore those two roads represent Jehovah or satan, and every single individual is on one of them as we speak.

How does one "enter in at the narrow gate"???

The narrow gate is a symbolic idea.

There is the "broad way that leads to destruction", and that is religion....or any attempt to connect with God, or become like a God, by some type of Religion or self effort.

Then there is the "narrow way".......and that is the ONLY WAY TO GOD....who is THE WAY....... And that is Jesus. He is the "narrow Way", as He is the only way to be saved and go to heaven. Its by Him.
