If you don't understand that Revelation 9:11 verse is specifically about Satan himself, then you're most likely going backwards in understanding God's Word...
Rev 9:11
11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
KJV
That locust army represents Satan's servants. He is their king, and Satan is 'the' angel of the bottomless pit. That is his home rule.
Interesting and novel interpretation, but then if Satan is the destroyer, and the ruler of the bottomless pit, who was Jesus speaking of when referencing the judgment of the ruler of this world? Is our world the bottomless pit? Or who was Paul referring to as "the prince of the power of the air?"
It's true that the word Satan simply means adversary and could just as easily be applied to any human in our natural state, prior to receiving new life in Him, but Satan is not omnipresent. He can't be in all places at one time. He's not like God, and doesn't possess those attributes defined by godhood. Heaven has a hierarchy. Hell has a hierarchy.
The thing that most people seem to miss is that Satan is already defeated and was judged nearly 2000 years ago. He's full of wrath because His time is short. What does that mean exactly? I've never been a convict on death row so I couldn't tell you how Satan feels, but scripture does. Jesus has all authority in heaven and on Earth. The demons recognized that He could cast them into the pit with a word, but it wasn't the appointed time of judgment. Why wait? Can faith be perfected without trial and temptation? Did God give Satan permission to test Job's faith? Did Job see God at the height of his own temptations and trials and repent of his own understanding and self righteousness?
God is not the "author" of evil, but He is sovereign over His creation and nothing that happens is hidden from Him, or occurs without His permission. He makes all things, not some things, work to the good of those that love Him and are called according to His purposes. He can only do that by being in control of even His enemies. God steers the heart or He let's it choose it's own way, but He always knows the destination and His grace is according to His election.
People give Satan way too much credit. He's really no more than God's junkyard dog and he's fenced in, trapped in what was once his domain, but now is just a holding area, waiting on the final punishments that accompany condemnation.
2 And he cried mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! Revelation 18:2
This proclamation is a future event, but the fall is here, at the door, as is the eternal gospel, the offer of life to all.
14 Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city. 15 But outside are dogs and sorcerers and sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and whoever loves and practices a lie.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star.”
17 And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.
It's very important to our understanding to get this point from the text and this text doesn't stand alone but reiterates what was written by the prophets. There is a city of God where the unclean may not enter, and in it is found the tree of life, but the waters of life are a stream that flows out of the city from that tree and becomes a river that all may drink from and the leaves of that tree are for the healing of the nations. These things are not far off, but near, at the door.
