1 Corinthians 12:

30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret?
No. The very next verse, 1 Corinthians 13:

1 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
The performance of speaking in tongues is neither necessary nor sufficient for eternal salvation. However, anyone who speaks in a tongue EDIFIES themselves.

If of God, if of another origin, its on the level of demonic possession..

Where does it say or remotely infer anything of the kind? NOWHERE in the bible! Just a casual reading of the book of conversions will tell you how to be saved and it has nothing whatsoever to do with "tongues" which also do not exist today. So how are we saved today then? Once again, the book of conversions will tell you how, no different than how those were saved back then.

"22Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not:"

No, I don't think speaking in tongues is necessary for salvation.

I have run across a few individuals over the years on various Christian forum sites who believe that speaking in tongues is a necessary manifestation of the Holy Spirit and without it, a person is not truly saved. These same folks also taught that if you are water baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit instead of being water baptized "in Jesus name" only then you won't be saved either. o_O

Just to also clarify, to he baptized "in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost", OR, "in the name of Jesus Christ", are both acceptable, because "in the name of" simply means by the authority of; to recite the actual names mean nothing prior to immersion. And as you can note in the various examples of conversions, nothing was actually said by the baptizer prior to immersion nor was required to be said, and only the one being baptized was required to confess his/her belief in the Lord as did the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 which is consistent with Romans 10:9-10. Scripture can't conflict with scripture, so those that claim one is superior to or supercedes the other, are mistaken.

1 Corinthians 12 - Long chapter on spiritual gifts. I believe we all have our own unique gifts. I notice here in the mountains many people playing musical instruments. I believe a good music ministry is a combination of many gifts. All the gifts work together to form a progressive body of Christ.
