Will the Sabbath be a 'test of loyalty' in the end times? Will the Sabbath be the defining factor in ones salvation?
Many believers who are God fearing and upright do not observe Saturday as the Sabbath, so will the Sabbath be the litmus test that sets Gods people apart in the end?

Near the end of time, Revelation 14 prophesies that a loud proclamation will go to the world. Three angels will speak with a loud voice.
We see the first angel:
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people.

The gospel goes to the world and we see the next verse.
Revelation 14:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

The command we see has to worship.
Fear God
Give glory to Him
Remember creation by worshiping God: Worship Him that made heaven, earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
And we know that Jesus, is the Creator of all things.

The first angel's message is pointing back to creation and the sanctification of the seventh-day Sabbath.

Genesis 1:31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

So we see how the judgement at the end is connected to worship, and its of the Creator who made the seventh-day Sabbath, for man. So will it be a litmus test, it seems to be connected.

Then we see the second and third angels' messages of Revelation...the second angel:

Revelation 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
  • Guilty of fornication, and making all nations drink of the wine of its wrath.
  • Exalts itself above all that is called God.
  • In opposition to God. (Daniel 7:25)
  • Speaks blasphemy against God. (Revelation 13:5)
The third angel:

Revelation 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

It clearly has a warning against worship of the beast and his image against whom the full wrath of God will be poured out.
We see clearly a call to keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and this is a call to worship God on His day, not the one set by man.

Romans 7:5-6
5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

Hebrews 10:25
25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Understanding the Bible is a test of loyalty.

There is no way to keep the Sabbath, EXCEPT by the letter, so how do you plan to keep the Spirit of the Sabbath by the Word?

The sabbath was a gift to us, an opportunity to rest (Mark 2:27).

Hobie, the ONLY way to heaven is not a doctrine but, through Jesus Christ and Him crucified TO PAY for our sins if we believe and obey, and "His commands are not grievous"

Every Christian sect has their own doctrines and, this is how we get swept away with every "wind of doctrine". We stick to Christ alone for our salvation, as He IS the ONLY way to The Father.

So how would you read this verse...
Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

On what basis does God divide the sheep from the goats in the final harvest? When the angels come to gather the children of God from one end of the earth to the other, how do they know whose are His? On the basis of a confession of faith? Baptism?
In Revelation 14 there is a distinct difference made between those who receive the mark of the beast, and those who refused it. Those with the mark are lost. Those who refused the mark were saved. Was there a distinct sign for those who had refused? Yes, they had the seal of God written in their foreheads. Elsewhere we are told that this was the Father's name. Names represent character. Having that name means you have surrendered personal sovereignty to the Father, that He has authority over your life, in contrast to those who have submitted to the authority of the beast.
In addition to this, every law has the seal of the Lawgiver. Without the seal, the law has little value and no authority. This is so for every government. Including God's government by which He rules His kingdom. Those who are finally reaped in the harvest, whose fruit is ripe, belong to His kingdom and are loyal, obedient, and have their Fathers name written in the minds and hearts... They have been fully recreated in the image of Christ, restored to their innocence as in Eden.
KJV Isaiah 8:16
16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

Where is the seal of God in His law? Seals have the name of the Lawgiver, the territory over which He reigns, and His title. The law, written by His own hand on tables of stone and rewritten in the tables of the minds, the foreheads, of God's people, is a transcript of His own character of love, for upon love hangs all the law and the prophets. Where is that seal? What commandment is it that the devil has purposed to remove? What commandment has been replaced by a counterfeit? What is the seal of God? What is the mark of the beast?

The answers are right there in the texts, in the very law itself. See for yourselves.

God's Sabbath REST is CHRIST and is no longer a day of the week.

There is no other REST that you can receive from God other then CHRIST.

Believing that Saturday observance is still required by God is a rejection of CHRIST and a return to the Law.

You need to read the Gospel of John, Acts, Hebrews

Colossians 2:16-19
So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

God did not put a ceremonial law in to the Ten Commandments.
And whether you say so or no, you keep nine of the ten.
Again, we are told in Rev 14: Here is the patience of the saints. Here are they that keep the commandments of God,and the faith of Jesus.

If the Sabbath has been a <test of loyalty> no one has ever passed the test.

Is the Sabbath a 'test of loyalty'? is the wrong question. The true question endorses the fact

Sunday worship is the 'test of loyalty' of a Christian's TRUE OR FALSE ALLEGENCE.

I thought this might be better addressed here.
i wanted to make sure that you understood that what i Posted was exactly what you responded with in the #1 category.
I'm afraid I understand no such thing at all, Brother David, and I think it would be wise to make a distinction between what I stated exactly and what you propose from Hebrews 4 and Matthew 11, figuratively. Because you certainly can't get the plan of redemption from Genesis 2.

No amount of wordsmithing can change the rules of hermeneutics. When a passage of Scripture can easily be interpreted literally, that should be it's primary interpretation. Adventists didn't make up that rule.

Not that other truths cannot be derived from symbolic considerations, but the meaning of something as fundamental as the ten commandments need not be altered by ambiguous readings of peripheral texts to suit tradition and convenience.

Science is already waking up to the biorhythmic construct of circaseptan. The beavers come out of their hutch on Sunday mornings, ready to start a new week of hard work.

Hormones related to stress and relaxation ebb and flow in 7-day cycles even in populations that have little to no such cycle culturally or industrially imposed on them.

Soon enough, the only thing left to consider will be which day to rest and worship—Rome's or Heaven's. :)

Genesis chapter 1 Begins with CHRIST
AND
concerning the 7 Days of the week = Colossians 1:15-18

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead,
that in all things He may have the preeminence.

What does Christ creating the heavens and the earth in 7 days have to do with the plan of redemption? Your assertion was that the first part of Genesis is the basis of the rest spoken of in Matthew 11 and Hebrews 4. The basis of something doesn't need to be identified by something else.

However true it may be, name-dropping Jesus into the creation narrative does nothing to support your claims.

Even the 2 givings of the law to Israel itself distinguish creation from redemption right in the 4th commandment. They do, without a doubt, come from the same Hand of love and mercy. But creation is not the new (re-)creation. Eden is not Calvary. Genesis 1 is not Colossians 1. And the 7-th day Sabbath is not the Atonement.

Tyndale was so certain of that that he felt compelled to create an entirely new English word for it.

Loading progressive revelation onto Genesis 1 and 2 is just putting the cart before the horse.

There are many exceptions to the rule, but the reason the vast majority of Christians won't consider keeping the original, literally expressed 4th commandment is either 1) tradition, or 2) dread of controversy/inconvenience.

When Sunday was widely believed by Protestants to be the object of the 4th commandment, no one objected to at least a modicum of it's observance.

But now that the proliferation of Bible study material in the media and on the Internet has nearly all non-Catholic scholars finding that position embarrassing to claim as sola scriptura, either the 4th or all ten commandments are under fire and sacrificed to spiritualism or declared ecclesiologically obsolete. Either views are entirely post-modern. Your believing grandparents would never have bought it.

And, as I said before, I can't spend much time on a one-dimensional discussion of this subject. If we can't comprehensively address each other's concerns, then we might as well just copy-and-paste old, existing thread contents.

The spiritualization of the 4th commandment is an objection that has been thoroughly exhausted here. Just search for Hebrews 4 if you'd like to read it. :)
