Christians don't have "rights".

You have a pretty low view of humanity. Humans were created good. Besides, American citizens do have rights.
How so? I'm speaking NT, not the Constitution. Christians have given up all their "rights" willingly.
Everyone in this discussion believes homosexuality is a sin. So we are all calling SIN SIN......now what? Are we supposed to condemn every sinner that we meet?
Only those who refuse to repent/change.

But, we live in America.....we have rights. Paul invoked his rights as a Roman citizen when he was imprisoned in Philippi.

Only those who refuse to repent/change.

But homosexuals have the same rights according to the Constitution as all American citizens - which means no one can violate their rights. What exactly are Christian supposed to do to unrepentant homosexuals? Tell them that they are sinners? What if they already know, being unrepentant, and all........what now?

Have you read the Sermon on the Mount? We MUST give up our rights.

Christians are to pray and preach the Word when opportunity arises. That doesn't mean to cram it down anyone's throat.

Matthew 7:6 (NKJV)
[sup]6 [/sup]Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.

I guess somebody needed to tell that to Paul......
The Sermon on the Mount tells us who will be blessed - it does command or tell us to do anything.

Christians are to pray and preach the Word when opportunity arises. That doesn't mean to cram it down anyone's throat.

So what is the problem?

Paul did not violate Jesus' teachings.

According to you he did - he demanded his "rights" as a Roman citizen.

Typo?

Yep. I trust you understand what I meant to say.

Just being sure. The Sermon commands us to give up our rights, period! Among many other teachings for us to obey.

[b]Matthew 5:39-44 (NKJV) [/b]
[sup][color="#000000"]39
[/sup]But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
[sup]40 [/sup]If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also.
[sup]41 [/sup]And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.
[sup]42 [/sup]Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
[sup]43 [/sup]"You have heard that it was said, 'You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'
[sup]44 [/sup]But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

These teachings are mandatory for salvation. They are not requests. And there are more.

Acts 16
[sup]37[/sup] But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”

[sup]38[/sup] The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed. [sup]39[/sup] They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city. [sup]40[/sup] After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they left.

Just being sure. The Sermon commands us to give up our rights, period! Among many other teachings for us to obey.

Jesus is telling us to love others through service - we can choose to obey or not - admittedly, at our own peril. What do these commandments have to do with homosexuality? It looks to me that Jesus is telling us to turn the other cheek even if we are offended by sinful people.

Matthew 5:39-44 (NKJV)
[sup]39 [/sup]But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

I don't see where Paul demanded anything. He was using wisdom in knowing that they would fear harming him knowing that he was a Roman citizen.

We can choose to disobey God and still be Christians? Scripture please.
So you are advocating works?
I'm advocating obedience to God's Word, as did Jesus.

Com'mon - he could have just walked out of the prison, but instead he demanded that they escort him out rather than quietly let him go. Later he demands to be tried in Roman, as all Roman citizens have a right to do

Christians disobey Christ all the time - it is called sin. You stopped reading the rest of my post - I stated that there would be consequences. What does this have to do with homosexuality?

I'm advocating obedience to God's Word, as did Jesus.

Hey - I am Catholic - I already know you cannot separate faith and works - I just didn't think I would hear it from you.

Are you saying that Paul intentionally disobeyed Jesus.

If those who break ONE of the least commandments will be called the least in the Kingdom, where will those who sin more be?

Matthew 5:19 (NKJV)
[sup]19 [/sup]Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
What does this have to do with homosexuality?
Someone brought up the matter of 'rights'.

Of course not, I am not the person who is claiming that we are commanded to give up all of our rights, either. Jesus called us friends - no longer slaves - are you calling Jesus a liar?

If those who break ONE of the least commandments will be called the least in the Kingdom, where will those who sin more be?

The last shall be first and the first shall be last

Someone brought up the matter of 'rights'.

I believe that was you, brother. I am still wondering how it fits in with the topic of homosexuality.....

It's clear we do not agree. The fact is that Christians have no rights in the NT. Christians were persecuted to the death but no Christian in the NT responded with violence. Jesus and the Apostles were murdered. None fought back.

Believe what you want to - you will have to ignore Paul exercising his rights as a Roman citizen. It doesn't matter anyway because I am talking about the rights of American citizens - regardless of religion. If you are a citizen - you have rights, whether you choose to exercise them or not. And the fact is, if you have a social security number and a driver's license you are exercising your rights. Illegal aliens cannot participate in either program.

I don't see how anyone can get "rights" out of:

Matthew 5:39-44 (NKJV)
[sup]39 [/sup]But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

[sup]44 [/sup]But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,

Perhaps that's a very good reason that Jesus said, "FEW there be that find it".

You cannot see reality in this situation. Nowhere in the Bible does it tell Christians, let alone nonbelievers that they have to give up there rights given to them by the government. You refuse to acknowledge that Paul and even you, yourself exercise the rights given to you by the countries you both are citizens of - I guess your understanding of the Sermon on the Mount is more important to hang on to than reality. Whatever - there is nothing more that I can say.

These are not requests.

Matthew 7:24-27 (NKJV)
[sup]24 [/sup]"Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: [sup]25 [/sup]and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. [sup]26 [/sup]But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: [sup]27 [/sup]and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. So when are you going to give up your citizenship? You cannot work without a social security number. Hope you like riding the bus and not carrying ID after you give up your driver's license. Forget about collecting unemployment, social security or medicare.

Nothing! They have nothing to do with rights - that is my point, remember? It was your claim that Christians have no rights - I am asking when you are going to start living what you are claiming - giving up your citizenship is the first step.

With that I am off to Mass
