The Biblical view. Some definitions my help.
What's your view on the final judgement?
1) Damnationism
The forever burning hell, eternal separation from God for the "unsaved".
The assumptions are loaded, the verdict determined and from what I hear and see, various individuals are so sure they could just about sit in the judgement seat themselves....but I would ask, who is judging who in any judgement? What's your view on the final judgement?
Here are the three popular biblical views:
1) Damnationism
2) Annihilationism
3) Universalism
All three views are biblical, all three views are in DIRECT conflict.
All three views are biblical, all three views are in DIRECT conflict.
C'mon marks, whatever makes you conclude that? ...and allow me to ask, how would you feel if it was clearly shown you contradictions?Absolutely false on it's face. The Bible does not contradict itself.
The deceiver speaks this way.
Much love!
Are you a Damnationist, an Annihilationist, or a Universalist?Absolutely false on it's face. The Bible does not contradict itself.
What about this support for Annihilationism? The Biblical view.
"And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."
The Bible does not contradict itself, it never has, and never will. Are you a Damnationist, an Annihilationist, or a Universalist?
These are the three doctrinal views of the Final Judgement, each with biblical support. Are you a Damnationist, an Annihilationist, or a Universalist?
Here are the definitions. Which one best fits your doctrine of the Final Judgement? The Bible does not contradict itself, it never has, and never will.
I'm a Christian, if you must label me.
This is an interesting passage as we are well aware the judgement in the times of Noah came by water and of Sodom, rained fire and sulfur from heaven. I wonder if this fire in 2 Peter has a historical context which they did not know or understand? Today we have guided missiles and large store house of nuclear armaments. I believe this is speaking of the reign of Christ and him establishing his authority in the earth - it will come with great judgements as the kings of the earth will not kiss the Son. The fate of those rebellious will be a permanent death in the grave, though Scripture likes to use figurative language to demonstrate its severity and truth (everlasting fire, Gehenna etc). What about this support for Annihilationism?
2 Peter 3:7 (NASB)
But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire,
kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
"Everlasting destruction", a process that never ends. Death NEVER means 'cease to exist' in the Bible. What about this support for Annihilationism?
2 Peter 3:7 (NASB)
But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire,
kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.
No. 2 typically assumes angels will take part of this judgement, which is nowhere taught in the Bible, however the teaching of the total cessation of life, physically and consciously is the Scriptural judgement. Unfortunately, Platonic teaching of spirits and immortal souls have created an alternate reality for most Christians; hence the false teaching of hell and heaven going. The Jews understanding of the Godhead and the state of the dead has not changed at all from OT to NT teaching, however the imported doctrine from 100’s of years of philosophical influence has. This is why doctrinal unity is impossible as the Word of God cannot standalone. Have a look at any thread in this forum and you will see council language used all the time.2) Annihilationism
Incineration of the "unsaved" after judgment.
could it also be filled with people who do believe in hell?Hell will be filled with people who don't believe in Hell.
If someone really believes in Hell it may well lead them to salvation. No Hell? No reason to repent.could it also be filled with people who do believe in hell?
It appears from your reply you haven't met The Man!If someone really believes in Hell it may well lead them to salvation. No Hell? No reason to repent.
Psalm 111:10
10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
Seems preposterous that there would be ANY "unbelievers" in the afterlife.could it also be filled with people who do believe in hell?
