Oh so I suppose you mean that you at one time wanted to do it but even if you had done it you would have maybe found that you didn't particularly like it after all.

So maybe you had the same thoughts about a tattoo at the age? (considered it..., but didn't...)
I did, but I’m telling you my mom would have disowned me

Oh okay! I thought we were talking about ear piercing before (and you said that in your area many parents give it to their toddlers).

I guess when it came to both ink and ear piercings your daughters had a stronger sense of compulsion than you did at their age, right?

I guess that the young men and women who know that a Bible verse / faith based tattoo design is likely to occasion many witness conversations are getting inked in the confidence that it may be more fruitful to embrace the medium than to resist it. (If this makes some sense?)
I suppose your logic assumes that taking on the practices of the world is certain way of witnessing?
Whenever this thought process is embraced the the people of God go back to the world rather than the people of the world coming to God.

Thanks for your comment; I guess the bottom line that each young Christian man or woman comes to is how often conversations about the Scriptures are likely to ensue if they do go for a Bible verse tattoo, etc., such as the young lady did with whom my wife and I spoke; indeed, her John 3.16 led to our conversation (as indeed she probably intended would happen repeatedly when she decisively received the inking).

farouk, with respect but this is a pathetic excuse to justify tattoos.

the things people do for any of many reasons does not justify their practices.

What I would do, whether they are to be agreed with or not, is to understand the motive to witness, since tattoos are indeed proven conversation-starters and Christian young ppl know it very well, and so this is the context of the likely motives of young people such as the young lady that my wife and I talked to with the whole of John 3.16 inked on her wrist area.

I was just glad to see someone wanting to witness to the truth of God's Word.

Well, I do expect they appreciate you and your convictions a lot in many, in other ways. (More than you maybe realize...)

In family life as you would well know, I'm sure we all have our mission fields - and sometimes fellow-labourers - to pray for, constantly

In any case, did you really try to stop your daughters getting earrings and inkings?

It's what daughters do, anyway, especially now.

The earrings weren’t a concern, the ink was never discussed.

...which kind of brings it back to the OP quote:

Around here (Bible Belt), it is common, especially among evangelical Christians, for the girls under about 40 to have religious tattoos. More do than don't, especially when you get to the under 30 crowd. I hardly know any female at church that is under 30 that does not have a tattoo.

It's what they now do.

(Many young Christian men and women then reason, Use faith based ink as a proven effective conversation-starting medium in witness among other young people. Which I guess has its logic, right?)
